Am I A Failure? My Parents Think So.

<p>Jokes, my parents love me.. i think.</p>

<p>Been a while since i've been on this site so i was hoping all of you could help me with my updated stats. Please bear with the long post.</p>

<p>1)Rising Junior Interested In Premed</p>

<p>2)Some Background facts about me:
-I am originally from South Asia and moved to Canada six or so years ago.
-Thankfully, i do not require financial aid for any Colleges.
-Not very competitive but very motivated to do well.</p>

<p>3)Courseload:
-I am an International Baccalaureate(IB) Student meaning Hard Course Load.
-All IB Courses
-Going to be taking four years of Foreign language.</p>

<p>4)Rank:
-Sorry, our school does not rank but it is one of three public schools in Toronto that offers IB so it is a good, competitive school.
-If i had to guess, i would say ~4/80 or Top 5 % or so. However, our school does not have to report a Rank since I am International so i do not think it matters.</p>

<p>5)Grades:-->80+ is equal to an A here<--
-Freshman:I got 1 A-, 4A, 1A+
-Sophomore: I got 2 A-, 3A, 2A+
-I do have all As so far. However, i am not sure if that translates into a perfect 4.0 GPA. So for chancing purposes, i would like you to assume i have a decent 3.7 UW just to be on the safe side.
-Junior Grades should be really good with an upward trend.</p>

<p>6)SAT Is
-Math:710
Critical Reading:690
Writing:710
Total:2110
-My Aim is 2150 which i know i can achieve with some prep. which i am currently doing.</p>

<p>7)SAT IIs:
-I have not taken yet but i will be taking three. I am not sure which one to take. Maybe you guys can help me decide too.
-I will be taking Biology for sure.
-Going to pick two from Math I, Math II and Chemistry. </p>

<p>8)Extra Curriculars:
-President of Health Club
-President of Intl. Relations Club
-Secretary Of Asian Club
-Empowered Student Partnership Member(Raised money and clothes)
-Sophomore Class Rep.
-Tech. Crew Member
-Passionate Ping Pong Player and a Good Swimmer.</p>

<p>9)Volunteering:
(~400-450 Hours)
-Local Long-Term Care Hospital
-Red Cross-Toronto District
-National Muscular Dystrophy
-Senior's Care
-Youth Helping Youth</p>

<p>10)Awards:
-A Couple of In-school Math Awards
-In-school Art Awards
-Projected Ontario Scholar(All As in HS)
-Honour Roll for last two years
-I am not very big on competitions but i will enter some next year and hopefully grab some awards.</p>

<p>11)Possible Essay Topics:
-My Volunteering Experiences and how it has changed me. Kind of Cliche?
-I have lived in four different countries. What i learned in each? multiculturalism?
-My Balcony. Kind of Abstract. It's weird but i always go to my balcony to 'think.' It works.
-More to be added.</p>

<p>12)Applying to the Following Schools:
-I do not have any massive safeties on this list because if i do not get admission into one of the following, i will go to univ. in Canada.
-Johns Hopkins(ED)
-U Mich.(2nd Choice)
-U of Chicago(3rd Choice)
-NYU(4th Choice)
-Washington U.(5th Choice)
-Rice U.
-Univ. of California San Diego
-Vanderbilt
-U. of Virginia
-Georgetown
-Emory</p>

<p>13)Questions:
-What are my chances of getting into the above colleges?
-Is there a possibility i will get shut out from all of them?
-What are my strengths. What are my Weaknesses?
-Suggest any schools to take off list. Some to Add?</p>

<p>Thankyou to all. Please take a bit of time to review my whole app. and give a fair, honest chance and advice. I will return the favour if you want!:)</p>

<p>your chances --
Hopkins - GOOD because of ED
michgan - also good
chicago - bit of a reach
NYU - good
wash U - reach
rice - low reach
UCSD - safety/low target
vanderbilt - low reach/high target
uva - low reach/high target
georgetown - reach
emory - low reach</p>

<p>-there IS a possibility. but the possibility is VERY slim considering all you got going for ya</p>

<p>-only you know your strengths and weaknesses ;) but i think your weakness is probably your SAT and it's not even a real weakness because you broke 2100. but i think your ECs are good.</p>

<p>-don't take anything off, but maybe look up schools with REALLY high acceptance rates if you're worried, although you shouldn't be...</p>

<p><a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/547444-so-here-goes-again-i-changed-my-mind-chance-me.html%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/547444-so-here-goes-again-i-changed-my-mind-chance-me.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p>

<p>Whats with all the sensationalist thread titles? </p>

<p>You are not a failure. I pity those who think not getting into Harvard makes them a failure.</p>

<p>lol runtime. I Do NOT think i am a failure. Notice the first line. 'Jokes My parents love me.. i think' ... was just joking. Frankly, if i do not get into the above schools, i will not be completely distraught. But anyway, i am fine with most of my apps. Anyway thanks crystal for your answers. </p>

<p>Will appreciate more feedback.</p>

<p>I have not gotten a reply in a while so bumping up this post.</p>

<p>bumpaaaaaa</p>

<p>For your SAT II's, I'd suggest picking Math II and Chemistry. Also, for your SAT I, maybe aim for a 2200? It's not too far off, especially if you're getting some prep.</p>

<p>-Johns Hopkins(ED) - high match
-U Mich.(2nd Choice) - match
-U of Chicago(3rd Choice) - high match/low reach
-NYU(4th Choice) - high match/low reach
-Washington U.(5th Choice) - reach
-Rice U. - low reach
-Univ. of California San Diego - match
-Georgetown - high match/low reach</p>

<p>I Think your ECs are focused which is obviously a good thing. just show some passion in your Essay and you will get into your ED. I am trying for JHU too and hopefully we will see each other there:)</p>

<p>thanks guys. any last ones?</p>

<p>bump this up</p>
