Am I a failure?

With recruiting season almost coming to an end and interviews beginning, I am starting to panic a bit. I am a junior at nyu and I applied to at least 26 different ibanks for a position this summer. i have heard back from about half of these, none of which offered me an interview. I am an 'alternate' for two big banks and have been offered interviews in other divisions (finance, corporate banking) but I feel like a failure for not being offered interviews with the bigger names. Am I a failure?

Sorry if this sounds too offending, but if you really think that you are a failure for not being offered an IBanking position, THEN you are a failure because you fail to appreciate other positions that're offered to you.

not really--- he's a junior at NY freaking U

but you are not a failure gonsenheim...things tend to work out...and you'll prollyend up working with the bigger names after graduation so don't fret just yet

just to clarify--I am at CAS at NYU and not Stern. Does this change anyone's opinion?

oh...then you are no where near a failure then, just one lucky helluva person....
better ace those interviews!

Being offered a Corporate Banking position as a CAS student is really good.

Thanks dhl3, I'm not necessarily disappointed in those interview offers, but I am disheartened to say the least that I didn't get interviews from some of the big banks. Is this a sign to come for smaller i.e. middle market banks? anyone in a similar position?

"to reach the top you must first start from the bottom."

man, i feel like my grandfather who told me that last summer.

gonsenheim I think you have done a fine job in getting offered an interview at a middle-bank firm. Just because the BB did not approach you is not the end of the world. Last time I checked there was this guy named Warren Buffet, he didn't exactly get recruited by anyone (nor even finish college) yet he did alright...

just to update I ended getting interviews (and offers) from a couple of the banks I hadn't heard back from.
