Okay, sorry for the stupid question, but I never really looked into the 1st gen. thing, because I assumed I wasn't. My dad never went to college, and my mom only had a semester of college before she had to drop out.

BUT my older sister will be going to college next year.. So, I'm sort of confused about if I am or not. I was looking at the UC San Diego site, and this is what it indicates is one:

"First generation college attendance
Applicants for whom neither parent is a college graduate (2 year or 4 year)."

But does this rule out still if my sister will be attending? >.<

I've wondered this too. I haven't counted myself as a first generation college student because although neither parent went beyond a few semesters of college, one of my grandfathers graduated with a PHd. All of my aunts and uncles on my mom's side, and several on my dad's have graduated from college, and two are college professors. But maybe I am first generation and could use that angle for scholarships?

Thatgirltoo, you raise a good point, sometimes the definition doesn't seem clear and it seems almost that no one thinks about what to do about college attendance "skipping" a generation. The only thing I can recommend in that case would be, if you get that question on some institution's application, call the admissions office and find out whether you qualify.
