Am I a first generation student?

Hello, I'm in application process, and I was wondering if I am able to say that I am a first generation college student. My father dropped out of high school and later got his GED, and my mother dropped out of her first year in the College of Staten Island to pursue a career on Wall Street. She told me she pretty much just left without telling anyone or doing anything official.

If one of my parents attended college for less than a year, but neither graduated, does that qualify me as a first generation? Would that be a viable hook?

as I understand it, even if only one of your parents did not graduate college, you qualify as first gen. In your case, I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be.

I would vote yes on this. If in doubt call the colleges.

Thanks for the answers. I’ll call the colleges then and ask them about it.
