Am I a "First-Generation"?

<p>My father has his GED from 3 years ago, but my mom (who is NOT a US Citizen) graduated from the University of Manila in the Philipines.</p>

<p>Sorry if this is a stupid question (I have a feeling it really is...), but when colleges ask if you'll be the first in your family line to attend college, do they mean a college in America? And when they mean "first in the family", a second cousin once removed going to college doesn't count, right?</p>

<p>They mean the first person in your immediate family to go to college anywhere...mother, father or siblings I believe.</p>
