the reason i thought i would be good is because I really like working for people's enjoyment and entertainment. My involvement as a business owner and as an sbo is strictly for the entertainment of others. I do it cause i like making other people happy and I like the feeling i get from doing it. I eventually want to work my way into the entertainment industry and get into production or something and maybe expand my business. i feel like a background in hospitality could really help me reach my goals.

(i'd probably right my supplement essay about what i just said)

I dunno if I fall under the right category but i thought i'd ask you guys to see if I fit the mold.

maybe a good fit. I would not waste your time retaking your tests though. As far as hotel admissions go. a 29 is as good as a 31/32

ah oops i meant to say i’m waiting on my december score, which i think i got a 31/32.

but do you think i would be better off applying to CAS or ILR instead?

I would definitely think you are a good fit for hotel.

Just make sure you are charismatic in your interview, and get a good head shot!
And play up the whole entertainment business thing in both interview and essay.

You don’t have hotel work experience. That will not be great for your application. your application and interests sound a Lot better for AEM in CALS

ah sweet just got my subject test scores back and got a 730 on math lvl 2. which is slightly better.

but i really am quite a charismatic person (not trying to sound arrogant or anything, but lets just say im very social and don’t really have a problem getting girls, ha :] )

collegecrazy:

you really need like direct hotel experience? maybe i dont really understand the hospitality industry as well as i think i do.

AEM was my original plan but i heard it was ULTRA competitive and my stats are kinda mediocre so i didnt wanna apply just to get rejected… but maybe i would be better off doing that cause it would be better for my goals.

i was also thinking of just applying to the liberal arts and sciences college and just major in economics…

I don’t think you need direct HOTEL experience, where is everyone getting this nonsense?

You need experience working in an entertainment/hospitality industry.

Whether that be as a waiter in a restaurant, or a maid in a hotel, or the OWNER of an ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS is no different

quoted from the website:

This is the path to hospitality leadership through learning. Our students become the next generation of industry leaders - an industry that’s more than just hotels and restaurants. It’s also casinos, cruiselines, finance, real estate, spas, theme parks, travel and tourism.

and

We are looking for students who have a rigorous curriculum and an outstanding record of academic achievement. We want students who have leadership, entrepreneurial interest and passion for the hospitality industry - typically demonstrated through first-hand work experience.

I think the entrepreneurial aspect of your situation far outweighs the fact that it is not IN a hotel.

but chendrix do you think i might be better off suited applying for AEM?

like is the entertainment industry really that closely related to hospitality?

i’m really just kinda in a limbo right now… ha.

i just dont want to do something i’m going to regret.

i know a kid who was in hotel last semester who got in because he was VERY interested in the entertainment industry (ie: producing films and the business aspect of it).

next semester, he’s transferring to USC (i think for some bus. program regarding the film industry - which if you’re interested in, you might want to look into too?)

“am i a good candidate for hotel?”

I think you’ll make a fine hotel
Do you have any exp being a hotel though?

lol

AEM would be a better fit for sure. Your GPA and ACT scores are competitive enough (if you got a 31 or 32 as you predicted in december). 85% of applicants admitted to the hotel school have previously worked in the hospitality industry (doesnt have to be hotels specifically).

However, I’m sorry to go against chendrix on this but “Owner of Videography Business” does not count. It would indeed make you a stronger candidate for AEM though.

ah yes cc102, i’ve already applied to USC  Its the business admin with an emphasis in the cinematic arts.

I would say it really depends what you want to do.

Look at the AEM curriculum. It’s more thinking of where you want to see yourself in 10 years. In a business field or more of a hospitality and leadership field.

The AEM program is ranked number 4. That changed a couple years ago!
