is being a political refugee of china a hook?
my school stats and ec's are pretty decent.

dont try to inject politics into your essay

siglio21,

I am not trying to put in politics, just that’s the begining of all my troubles

@laxxer

I personally grew up in the rural countryside of China till 6 years of age, and I can safely say that there is no “political refugee” problem in my country. Trust me, my mother was one of the student protesters at the Tienanmen square demonstration and we have not been “forced” by the government in any way to seek refuge in another country.

Don’t place “political refugee” in your essay, it is too unbelievable and quite frankly, makes me feel as if you’re trying to make a pedestrian emigration sound like a flee from persecution.

I lived a hard life as a child working the farms in rural China, as I did place this in my challenges essay, but I did not state that “I was a child-slave to the communist regime of China, and thanks to a bout of good fortune, was allowed to immigrate to the U.S., where my troubles were somewhat alleviated.” Rather, I stated that these tough circumstances have only served to make me a stronger individual, and I only explained the actual challenge in about 2-3 sentences, and the rest of my essay focused on the results and how I handled the situation. The ad com doesn’t want to hear a list of complaints, but rather what you drew from them.

China, contrary to popular belief, is only about 10% communist. We have adopted a free-market policy and have, in recent times, incorporated the Democratic ideals of the West into our lives, as shown in the market and now in some elections of representatives. So do not go about spreading misconceptions and how you are a “political refugee” of China. My own mother vehemently opposed the government in Tienanmen square, and are we “refugees”? No. So don’t come telling me that you are.

^ Dude calm down

^ haha, people have told me that multitudes of times throughout my high school career. It’s just that I’m very very very very nationalistic. My grandpa fought against the Japanese in the Sino-Japanese war, and my father is a colonel in the Army. It seems that my mother has no influence on me with her anti-government view lol. In my school, if you make fun of China in any way, you just bought yourself a whole can of whoop-ass, trust me, 6’3 256lb 8% body fat, 5 years of Kungfu from my grandpa, Chinese dude coming at you is pretty scary stuff.

Why so nationalistic?

^ like I stated, family influence, and also the Japanese murdered my great-grandpa and his brother, so the hatred for Japan and its occupants serves as another source of fuel for my nationalism.

^^rofl. Yea seriously though laxxer - it is not a hook. You can briefly mention it but it shouldn’t be used as an excuse whatsoever.

Why hate Japan? Why hate someone who had nothing to do with what happened to your great grandpa

^ I won’t jump to a conclusion on your informedness about the Sino-Japanese war yet, but I can assure you that if you had known and if you have experienced any of the pain and suffering brought on by the Japanese, you would hate them with all your heart, as I do. The fact that they still have not made any sort of formal apology towards China for the horrendous war crimes committed further exacerbates the situation. I do wish to embrace the Japanese people at my school and my previous schools, but that primal part of me which feels this great hatred has been responsible for several “fights” between me and the other Japanese students, which usually involves me just kicking the crap outta them. These occurred out of school campus of course and resulted in no “school consequences” whatsoever. If you have had members of your family murdered, raped, and tortured, then perhaps you can feel some of the emotions coursing through my body at this moment.

Well, my race has been oppressed by white people, and I am suffering to it to this day, but I feel no hatread( Alright a little, okay maybe more than that), idk, I can see where your coming from

^ May I kindly ask what race you are? Just curious.

Also, if the Japanese government were to formally apologize for their crimes and actually regret their actions, then my hate towards them may be mitigated. To the extent where I don’t beat up every Japanese kid at my school…

You sound dangerously racist.

I’m black… and racism is the believe that one race is superior to another

@hahalolk

LOL, yep, I’ve been told that by many of my friends and peers, but the truth is, it was initially more of a hate against the government and the military rather than hate towards the people themselves…Though the former has diffused into the latter, and now its just a general hate towards the Japanese.

@scales1994

Oh…yeah I definitely know where you are coming from. I personally have great empathy for the blacks, and have befriended and been befriended by numerous Negro students(no offense, just a fitting word). And am currently writing an essay on Martin Luther King Jr. for a contest :D

The first part is almost okay… but then the second part is just racist. This might not be the exact definition of racism (the idea that one race is superior to another race), but it’s still hate and prejudice.
There were Japanese-Americans that fought for America during WWII… and also ones that were sent to internment camps. There are some evil Japanese people, some saintly ones, and some regular ones. While all Japanese people are Japanese, it really only matters which category (evil, saintly, or neutral) they fall in.

If it matters, I am Mexican, so don’t think I don’t know what can happen… but I do know it can’t be fixed with more hate.

^ I do understand your point of view on this subject. Even though I have tried numerous times to come to terms with the monster of hate in my heart, I have ultimately failed. Every time, i would be reminded of the horrendous human experimentation, the murdering of innocent infants, and the rape of thousands of women, and worst of all, of the deaths of my own family members. Like I said, IF THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT WERE TO OFFICIALLY APOLOGIZE FOR THEIR ACTIONS INSTEAD OF ACTING LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!, I would be a different person today.

Also, I’m pretty sure no Japanese person fought for China…

I understand Pianoman. My family was persecuted by the Nazis, and my grandfather (only living descendant) said that the official german apology meant a lot. To this day Japan has failed (to my knowledge) to issue a formal apology to those in Nanking, etc
Watch the movie the Men Behind the Sun.
2 things will happen.
- You will throw up multiple times because the movie is very graphic and very disturbing.
- You will hate japanese people
