^ First off, I’m truly sorry for what has happened to your family, and finally someone can understand the pain and suffering that I have felt and experienced.
I have yet to watch that movie, but am a little scared of the outcome, for this film will only serve as gasoline in a raging fire, and might make my hate so much stronger…
Yes, once again, I am forced to reiterate that if the Japanese were to apologize, I would “somewhat” forgive them.

After reasearching, it appears a unit called the 442nd had 30,000 Japanese-Americans fight for the US in WWII in Northern Africa. While not “with” the Chinese in the literal sense, they were “with” them in the sense that they were fighting the Axis Powers. It is not where a man comes from that makes him, but what he decides to be.

^ he has hatred for Japan and its occupants, not Japanese americans ( I dont think)

^^ I do not hold hatred on those men and others who chose to renounce the government for which they were unfortunately born into. I do, however, hate those who accept the Japanese government and dare to SUPPORT THEIR INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS IN DEALING WITH CHINA!!!(I almost broke my keyboard…)

I know that good Japanese people exist who know to look beyond the propaganda being fed to them about the “truth” behind the occupation of China, and I fully support them.

Compared to:
I’m assuming they were Japanese-Americans. I don’t think violence really solves much in this scenario. He also said that hate for Japanese government and Japanese people had merged a bit, which is why I tried to show that not all Japanese had anything to do with supporting Japan in WWII.

^for real, dude calm down. You seem like you could potentially go overboard one day and become a serial killer.

^I was talking to pianodude, btw

^ haha, I don’t think I would go that far, though I have gotten into quite a few fights over this issue. I can’t state this enough, I DO NOT CHOOSE TO HATE JAPANESE PEOPLE, SIMPLY THE CIRCUMSTANCES WHICH WERE PRESENTED TO ME HAS CAUSED THIS HATE, nature vs nurture… IF THE INCOMPETENT JAPANESE GOVERNMENT WERE TO APOLOGIZE, APOLOGIZE!!!, TO THE CHINESE PEOPLE FOR THEIR WAR CRIMES, I would almost instantly lose all of the hate towards them, for they have shown regret at their actions. Right now, an image that’s in my mind is a group of Japanese officials in suits gloating and smirking at the atrocities committed in China, and it just makes my blood boil.

If i understand Pianodude correctly, he is against Japanese and Japanese-Americans under 1 condition: They are nationalistic.
I feel fine when a German friend starts talking in German and wears German t-shirts and stuff. But it’s not that big a deal. On the other hand, if he wore a shirt with Nazi symbols and stuff, I would be offended.

Now there IS a difference. In Germany following the war, both the GDR and FRG issued apologies and renounced all Nazi stuff and tried nazi war criminals. Did the Japanese do that? No.
I know Japanese-Americans who are extremely proud of their heritage. But they need to realize that their heritage involves the slaughter of tens of millions of chinese civilians.
Just as I realize that my heritage is offensive to Palestinians (even though I’m anti-zionism)Japanese people need to be more considerate of Chinese folks.

And Pianodude, I wouldnt recommend you see the Men Behind the Sun. It’s really graphic and horrible. It details systematic torture and slaughter of Chinese kids.

^ yes, finally someone can understand what I’m feeling. Don’t worry, despite the horrible patronizing and arrogance of the Japanese government, I have tried to look at a brighter side of things and at the empathetic Japanese people, even though it’s very very hard.
Your recommendation may be well-served, for watching that movie might catalyze a chain reaction that can lead me to go on a hate rampage…I have a very short temper…

@Pianodude: I just wanted to say that I understand where you’re coming from; the Japanese basically destroyed my people as well

@CaliAdVitam

Very sorry to hear about your losses too. I really wish that the Japanese government would simply show some humiliation and officially apologize for ALL their acts in World War II. As to date, Japan is the only country who has not issued a formal apology to any countries and is the only country who still has not OFFICIALLY acknowledged their participation in the War. So much for the honor and pride of a Samurai huh?

P.S. Which country do you come from Cali?

actually, it’s not a country at all: it’s Guam :)

But yes, I agree. I just hope you come to terms with the Japanese…at least, the “nationalistic” ones.

^ Hm…that’s harder than you, and I, think. If you have read the previous posts, you will see that once I recall those memories and that hate begins to burn, I, literally, am not myself anymore. I really don’t know how to describe it, but I just go uncontrollable if you make any slants towards China or make any supportive statements towards the Japanese government. Even worse are when people try to “kid around” with the events in Nanking, after which I seriously, become the Hulk.

Let’s say that by some miraculous effort, the Japanese did apologize (at this rate, they most likely will not). would that be enough for you?

If they issue a sincere, formal apology, then yes, that would be enough for me. I do not wish for all Japanese people to die, simply for them to realize the gravity and the severity of their acts against the Chinese and others. If, however, they choose to offer an insincere apology to simply “get the pressure off their shoulders”, then my hate for them would only heightened because that is an active declaration that they still support their past actions.

we totally took over this dude’s thread, oh well who cares xD if it were me, I would forgive them, but there will be that tiny flame of hate still there, but very tiny

Lol scales.
Aside from being Islander I’m also part black, and I guess you could say that I’ve “forgiven” whites.

Oh no I hate whites with a burning passion, well the men xD haha not really, well, just the men

Uhh haha ANYWAYS @Pianodude: at least try and find it in your heart to “forgive” the Japanese; I know it’s better said than done, judging by the actions you’ve described, but still. I think someone noted earlier in this thread that it’s almost like racism, but not… really? I don’t know. Like I said, I understand where you’re coming from though; they did the exact same thing to my people.
