I know this should be on the "What are my chances?" forum but I wanted to hear input from REAL Berkeley students/acceptees. I had a 2.4 Freshmen Year around that. I heard Berkeley disregards freshmen year. So Do i have a chance? My sophomore is 3.85 GPA and Junior 3.99 GPA. UnWeighted. SAT's hoping for a 2100+. chances??

with a 2100+ sat, you should have a shot. how are your ec's?
i'm not sure about berkeley disregarding freshman year, though. i do believe it's a common myth, though i may be wrong.
berkeley does read your essays, so do put a lot of effort into them!

Thanks. My EC's..

You're fine. Definitely a competitive applicant.

Berkeley puts emphasis on the essays. Do them well.

You have a shot. They don't take a look at your freshman grades.

Thanks a lot beastmaster, I'll try my best. Think if I'm competitive for Berkeley means I'm safer for say.. UCLA and below?

Plus+ Any other people chancing me? Thanks =]

i think you've got a good shot. do well on the essays. they dont count freshman year.

They don't count freshman year in the UC GPA calculation.

They LOOK at freshman year. It would be good if you had an essay about self-improvement since freshman year or filled in the "additional information" box to explain it.

While you are a competitive applicant, it would be better if you were able to tell the admissions officers the situation why you had a 2.6. Making it eloquent and touching helps too.

Thanks Allorion. I'll remember that when filling out the applications, I'll try to put effort into the essays more as I see a constant trend that these two colleges emphasize on essays a lot. Thanks a lot.

ANymore chances??

all the UC's, along with Stanford and Princeton, throw out Freshman year grades...

you're kinda like me. Except for my lowest freshman GPA was a 2.67 .. and i got in! I REALLY made up for it all throughout high school though. sophomore year I had a 4.20's both semesters and junior year i had a 4.60. So as long has you've been strong every year besides your freshman year I think you'll still have a chance.
Just remember that it's not ALL abuot grades and SAT scores. Granted, they are important but other things (ec's, essays..) play a big role too.

i actually think u have a better chance than others. I heard UC's and others really like applicants who show improvement through their sophmore and junior years.

givin' this a bump. more chances please =]

bump bump bump
