Nobody in my family has ever gone to Harvard College, but I’ve got an Uncle who is an endowed professor at the med school and a cousin who’s a grad student right now. Are either of these relevant and if they are, how would I go about communicating this to Harvard?
Harvard’s definition of legacy: the sons and daughters of Harvard and Radcliffe College alumni. So, Admissions does not consider you a legacy.
FWIW the only way a legacy applicant “communicates” their status is by indicating their parents graduated from either Harvard or Radcliffe on the parent education section of the Common Application.
No you’re not a legacy, but having a relative who is a full professor can certainly help. Ask your uncle if he has any contacts through the faculty office.
