Am I a strong candidate?

Hello! Thank you in advance. I don’t have much guidance in anything college-wise, but I was wondering if anyone can just go over my resume and give constructive feedback and any college recommendations.

GPA: 3.85 uw
SAT: 1330
ACT: Have yet to take it. Will likely get at least a 30?
Courses: A lot of AP’s, such as English Lit, English Lang, Stats, Macroeconomics, Psych, Environmental Science. I have a day to delete or add more, so feedback on good APs to take would be appreciated.
Intended major: Not really sure yet. . . definitely either a medical field major, or government(specifically foreign service).

ECs/Awards:
-Founder/President of a group that has grown well over four years. Dedicated to helping grieving/troubled students and service. An actual group. Not just a silly “ooh I am a founder” club “this will look great on college”. I wasn’t even planning on attending college then. I promise it is sincere  My brother passed and well. . . it was needed

-Anti-drug group at school. Member and grade representative for four years.

-4-h member for for four years/self-declared hobby farmer and friend to poultry

-Japanese- Learning with a tutor for grades 11 and 12. Used my working $$$ to pay for it, because dedication

-Teen ambassador for my state

  • Volunteering(70+ hours)

-I teach classes to elementary kids about life skills, good character, no-to-drugs

-National Honor Society

-Essay winner for something I am not going to say on a public forum

-Lots of honor rolls, but I think most people get those. . .

Miscellaneous:
Letters of Recs should be good
Essays should be bomb
I shall try to somehow find a why to enlighten the applicant judges(? forgot what they are called) as to what kind of person I am and what I am fond of, such as fancy show chickens, fixing furniture, painting, etc.

Again thank you kind internet strangers for any help. It is much appreciated.

I am very open to college options

Are Ohio State, Miami Ohio, Oberlin, and Ohio U on your list?

If the ACT is 32+ then Case Western could be a target as well.

Thank you! All are, except for Oberlin and Miami. I am not too crazy about their majors, but I will have to look into them more. And yeah, I am torn on Case and get mixed opinions from it. Got any out-of-state recommendations? Thanks again

Although you mention East Coast as not ideal, BU and Brandeis might be worth trying. Also for a International Relations major George Washington might be worth looking at.

Thank you very much! By the way, I meant that East Coast is ideal, so thanks for sticking to that geographic. And I have not heard of those, but they look great from what I checked out so far, I am going to do more research. I had trouble discovering colleges that are not in my state, so this is incredibly helpful!

I would suggest your get your hands on a good college guide book such as Fiske, Princeton Review, or Insiders Guide and read up on different schools. You can probably find the books in your guidance office or library.

Thank you! I have definitely looked into websites and such(a lot). I wanted to find lesser-known colleges than the “Ivy’s”, but thanks to Hamurtle I got a few a more that I am researching! Thanks again

Thanks everyone. Advice honestly helped!

Thank you for your comment! Do you have any other recommendations or advice? I am not looking at ivies, so I am open to most anything. Most people on here ivy-focused it seems?

I would also add Tulane to the list if something public health related is on your list. Not sure about their rankings for lR/Political Science but your grades/test scores are in range. Plus New Orleans is a fun place to go to school.

You could consider USC as well if the ACT goes well.

Awesome colleges. Thanks again! Looking at these colleges has really helped me learn a lot about what I want to do college-wise. I appreciate your feedback lots. So far, I have really been intrigued by George Washington Uni!
