Am I Aiming too High, just Right or too Low??

Hey guys,

Anyway, having a down day so hoping someone can tell me my chances for these colleges. I am a rising junior .. and interested in premed. Details will come in future chance threads.

Ethnicity:South Asian.. not Indian .. from Bangladesh

I go to a competitive IB school in Canada

<<rank>>~4/85 making that Top 5%</rank>

The Ranking System is Different in Canada because an A here is 80+. Do not be fooled because that is not easy to get, esp. at my school.

<<courseload>>Hard... IB</courseload>

<<grades>>A=80+</grades>

Freshman Year: (82,90,87,87,86,85)

Sophomore (80,81,90,92,87,85,86)

As you can see, i have all As in Canada but i do not know if that transfers into 4.0 GPA in the States. Probably not. If i had to GUESS, i would guess my GPA is between 3.65-3.85. for Chancing Purposes.. assume it is like a 3.7.

I have not done junior year yet, but the courseload is hard and i will do very well i am hoping.

<<sats>>
Math:720
Writing:720
Critical Reading:680
Total:2120.. Aiming for 2150+</sats>

<<sat subject="" tests="">>
I have not taken them yet.. but i took a the math 1 as a practice at home when i was in grade 10 and i got a mere 630... that should go way up!</sat>

I plan on taking the following:

Math II--> Aiming for 720+
Chemistry--->Aiming for 710+

These are just my aims but i think i can do better.

[thread=546604]If you want...[/thread]

what>!>!>1 is my title that bad?!?!? comon guys and girls!

Could you tell us your courses? For those of us who are OCD.

Psh, aigiqinf, like you chance people anyways.

Anik: For premed, have you looked into accelerated med programs? These programs guarantee you a seat into the school's med school -- you don't even have to take the MCAT or apply separately. (It's just a matter of whether or not you want to spend 6-8 years in one place. ;)) Northwestern's HPME and Brown's PLME are great but ridiculously hard to get into, and some less selective but still well-respected ones include Boston University's, Drexel's, Penn State's, Case Western's, and GWU's.

Your volunteering is really impressive, and you've got a clear focus on medicine, which will be looked upon favorably. As it stands, you've got a good chance at every school on your list, and after retaking the SAT you'll have an even better chance (I don't know the stats, but I expect that JHU, Cornell, Rice, and Williams have pretty high average SATs.)

Hey, I'm learning! Canadians are harder so I was going to see what an excellent Canadian schedule was.

i dont think a lot of ppl realize williams is #1 liberal arts college...its ivy too...lol. unless theres a williams college that i dunno about. hah.

you definitely need some awards there, seems like the only thing ur lacking majorly. other stuff r decent. not ivy status tho =( just like me. lol.

Johns Hopkins(Early Decision)- reach
Cornell-low reach
University of Michigan-low reach
Rice U.-high match/low reach
UCSD-low reach/reach becuz ur OOS...
University of Virginia-no clue.
University of Chicago-low reach/reach
NYU-high match
Williams College-if its williams that i know of...reach/high reach.
Vanderbilt-high match/low reach
Emory-high match/low reach

could you chance me too?
<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/546935-zomg-bbqimnot4-0student.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/546935-zomg-bbqimnot4-0student.html</a></p>

Thanks guys.. i really really hope i get into JHU.. i will show my passion and sincerity in my essays. Hopefully they see that. More chances:)

Like i said, in my previous most... your stats are similar to mine so i hope i get into JHU too.. maybe we shall see each other!

thanks wow, good luck to you too.

!!!Percentage Chances please!!!!

rice is probably a low reach :(

haha i think so too.... rice and jhu have holistic approaches so that should help me...

What else do people think about my chances?? any more thoughs

In school awards like Honor Roll and math stuff won't really matter when it comes down to it, but your focus on medical ECs does stand out. I think when paired with your courseload, you shouldn't have to worry too much about lacking ECs. And GPA-wise, I don't know how that will be converted for the admissions process, but because of your rank that shouldn't be a problem.

You also have a really long list of schools, and that's without safeties! I'd definitely pare this down!

Johns Hopkins(Early Decision)- ED will give you a boost. I'd say high match.
Cornell- High match
University of Michigan- Match
Rice U.- Match
UCSD- Can't say
University of Virginia- OOS is pretty competitive, reach.
University of Chicago- Low Reach (counts on essays!)
NYU- Match
Williams College- Reach, it's super-competitive.
Vanderbilt- Match
Emory- Low match
