I got in today at my ED school! I’m waiting for a the full package letter to come in the mail before I make my deposit to the school, but I’m not sure how long that will take and I have two other schools that will come out with admissions on the 20th. Am I allowed to receive those admission news in case that my financial aid package does not arrive by that time? I heard there was a deadline for deposits but I wasn’t able to find one.
Call the fiancial aid office at your ED school. Didn’t they give you your package as part of your acceptance? You should not withdraw your apps until you know what the package is. If the package doesn’t arrive before other decisions come out, you certainly can’t deposit or accept at one of the other colleges. ED is binding except if Financial aid doesn’t work out. So you really can’t do anything until you get the info.
If it turns out they don’t give you enough, ask for more. THEN you can back out if finances don’t work. Bear in mind that you can’t fake the financial stuff. If you do so, your school suffers. It’s very bad for a school when kids back out of ED agreements, and it makes the counselor at school look bad too. Future applicants from your school might be black listed if it turns out that you backed out for non-financial reasons.
I didn’t receive a letter containing all the information through mail but I did get my financial aid information online. I was asking if I could receive the admissions news that come out on the 20th while waiting for the letter to come? I didn’t receive a deadline for when I’m supposed to submit the deposit money.
Is the financial aid sufficient such that you can afford to attend? If the answer is yes, then you are obligated to withdraw your applications to the other schools. That was the deal you made when you applied ED.
The ED response date should have been mentioned in the acceptance. If it wasn’t, you need to call the school to find out when it is so you don’t miss it.
Is the package the ED school offered you affordable?
Then getting a letter in the mail is a mere technicality. You have the financial info. You show it to your parents. You ask for more money if necessary. If more money isn’t necessary, congratulations, you are going to college. You withdraw your other apps. There is no need to wait for the actual letter.
You must attend if it’s financially viable. That’s what you, your parents, and your school counselor agreed to. Waiting for your other acceptances does not factor in to the issue.
I’m sure that you did receive a deadline for when to deposit the money. You have to go back and read the letters. This is important.
Thank you for the replies! it says online that I received a pretty large scholarship plus some grants from financial aid which does make the school affordable! But I was told by an alumni to wait for the letter that would come in the mail because it would contain my financial information that’s finalized? But with that, would I be allowed to receive admissions news from other schools that are coming in like 6 days? I asked my counselor about that and he said it was fine as long as I don’t pay the deposit fees for those schools but now I’m unsure about what he said from reading these answers.
Per the ED agreement you are to promptly withdraw the apps once you have been accepted ED and receiving notification about financial aid.
If you are accepted under an Early Decision plan, you must promptly withdraw the applications submitted to other colleges and universities and make no additional applications to any other university in any country. If you are an Early Decision candidate and are seeking financial aid, you need not withdraw other applications until you have received notification about financial aid from the admitting Early Decision institution.
^^that about does it
ED II is binding. Hopefully, you are thrilled to attend, and are not looking for more acceptances.
As long as you will be attending your ED II school, I don’t see any harm coming from waiting for the official letter outlining the financing that you can take to the bank. However, read the information you have been provided carefully. If there is a Feb 15 deposit date, and you didn’t read your notification carefully you could miss the deadline.
Thank you!! I checked my online status and the deposit date was all the way on the bottom of the screen. Might have missed it if I didn’t read what you wrote. But yes thank you! This was very helpful
