im a junior who moved from england to the us in 7th grade. im living based on my dads work visa, which is getting renewed this summer. after the visa is renewed, ill be applying for a greencard, but by the time that is finished i will have already applied to college. when im applying am i an international applicant or not? ive done all my schooling in the US and i live here, im just not a citizen.

If you are a resident then i don't think you are an international applicant......

you need to hold a green card or US citizenship, otherwise you are an international applicant. so -- you are an international applicant.

Just because you have lived here for many years and gone to school here does not make you a permanent resident. also -- federal financial aid (which you apply for using FAFSA) is only available to permanent residents.

Permanent residents cards (green cards) can take quite a long time to be processed.

You might consider taking a gap year -- or applying as an international student and if you don't get in, reapply the following year after getting your green card.

there are some schools that will allow you to apply as a US resident if you have a green card that is pending (i.e. you have filed all paperwork, but don't have it in hand) -- I don't know which schools, but I remember someone doing that last year.

If you are here as a dependent on your father's work visa, then you are an international student. You will not qualify for federal financial aid until you have received a green card. Given the amount of time it takes to get a green card, some schools will treat you as a permanent resident if you have received a notice of action form from the INS verifying they have received an application for permanent residency, if the basis for applying indicates it is likely to be granted (switching from an H visa to permanent residency usually is).
