am i applying out of my range cause of my SAT score??

I actually took the SAT a total of gulp 6 times. Once every year since 7th grade (7th and 8th grade for the johns hopkins talent search. I dunno, my parents thought it would be good experience since im not the best of test takers and and i went up around 50-100 pts each time. But my score is still pretty weak, do i stand a chance with schools like johns hopkins and others on the same level cause of this? Im applying early decision and my interview went pretty good in my opinion. Thanks ahead of time to anyone that reads this and i appreciate any honest criticism!

Believe in yourself! You can do it!

It’s really not terrible IMO. You’ve got the EC’s and a GPA that proves you’re not completely incompetent. To be honest, I suffer the same-ish situation… and it blows. While it’s not a definite shut-out, it’s definitely not something that’s helping you, maybe even a step back. Granted, I’m not an expert on JHU. Growing up with my parents, I’ve had my earful of Ivy League talk and from that standpoint, it’s not all hopeless.

Good luck!

thanks, i appreciate the feedback. yea my sat scores are definitely my downfall. i felt a little bit of hope upon hearing that johns hopkins doesnt look at sats that much but even then, my scores are still low. im gonna cross my fingers and hold my breathe until 6pm on monday aha

My SAT score is my biggest drawback as well. I’m applying RD though. Anyway, I think that your ECs and applying ED will help. You’ll find out soon enough, so just hang in there. Good luck.

Any tests taken before your freshman year don’t go on your record. So to the admissions officers, you will have “only” taken it 4 times.

lol im hanging alright, but thanks for the feedback.

and simpson98, i think ill sleep a little better tonight knowing that they “only” saw 4 say reports instead of 6 haha

yeah my sat is like 100 points lower than yours and i applied ED too
i cant wait till 3 monday in cali
ahhh so nervous

Well, if you’re going to try to get into a top university with those scores, JHU is the place to do it. They said in no uncertain terms that it is the last thing they consider, and give it little weight when I was there. Personally, I’d like it to be the other way around, but what’re you gonna do?
If you don’t get in, don’t take it personally. As an Asian Male from MD, you are in the category of “overrepresented,” so they’ll naturally be harsh. Good luck, man.

i think ur gpa and ec’s should be able to overlook the SAT scores, and as someone said before JHU doesnt seem to focus on the SAT’s as much as other top schools seem to.
Good luck !

Yea, that’s what i figured too. I went to one of jhu’s information sessions and they emphasized how the SAT isnt a very important factor in deciding who they accept and reject. my interviewer told me the same thing and really emphasized it so im hoping they overlook it. so i hope for the best for me and you, mvaish. and you find out by 3? luckkayyy, we dont get emailed til 6 X-(
