I was accepted to what has always been my top choice school (Princeton), but now I spend way too much time on the internet researching schools like MIT and Harvard that I think I might have preferred but didn’t apply to since I was accepted. I’m just regretting not applying to a few other schools so much even though I’m already in a good position.
You need to just step away from the computer. You’re into a top school and your application process is over. Have fun senior year and go climb mountains (figuratively). Good luck.
The grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence. I agree with the above.
You will love your time at Princeton. It has the highest alumni loyalty and giving back for a reason. Trust me Harvard and MIT have their issues (as does Princeton). If you are 100% committed to wherever you find yourself in life then nowhere else will ever be as nice. Stop second guessing. If you were denied or rejected from Princeton, you’d be pining for it right now as though it had no equals. Get off CC as the above poster said and go enjoy the last few months of senior year!
Speaking of the saying the grass is always greener, I just saw a quote that said something like “the grass is actually greener where it’s watered”.
Research Princeton more again so you can picture yourself there more and imagine the clubs, activities and classes. Try connecting with future Princeton graduates. And like has already been said, enjoy the rest of your senior year!
Yes, I think this feeling is very common. I felt the same way the first time I bought a car and a house. At some point, you need to stop looking at other options and commit to the decision you have made. Don’t let wondering “What if?” steal your joy from the here and now. Congratulations and good luck!
What is your career goal? You have already passed the application step. Just look forward. You may apply to transfer next year if you want to. Also, there is no guarantee (or mostly likely not) to be admitted by the other two schools anyway. Why waste your time?
Get off the dxxx computer and enjoy your last semester as a HS senior. You’ve worked hard now go enjoy yourself. This is a serious waste of emotional energy. Yes, you’re being ridiculous.
Did you find out if you’re allowed to commute? What are your parents saying about the costs? Can they afford the cost for all 4 years? If not, did you apply to any affordable schools?
Thank you everyone, I guess I do need to step away from the computer for a bit. I’ve had too much free time to overthink things it seems.
@GnocchiB No, we’ve figured out the money part so it’s not affordability, I guess it’s just that since I got my decision so soon and I see everyone around me still applying, it feels like I should be doing something too if that makes sense. Yeah, I’ve applied to a few other Ivies just to see if someone else might offer me more financial aid. I was very against applying to MIT and Harvard at first so I didn’t include them in my list of colleges.
@austinmshauri We’re still not sure if I’m allowed to commute, but the cost isn’t too big of an issue any more (it’ll definitely take a chunk out of my parents’ savings, but I definitely won’t need loans or anything). I did apply to some state universities where I knew I could get scholarships but I’m most likely going to Princeton as of now.
