I would like to apply to...
Carnegie Mellon
Haverford
Bryn Mawr
Barnard
Hamilton
McGill
Connecticut College
Vassar
Middlebury
Vanderbilt

several other liberal arts. Are these beyond my reach? Do I have a low chance of getting into any of them? I dont want to kid myself. Thanks...

i think you’ve definitely got a chance for all of those. there’s more information you could add (size of school, class rank, age, etc.) but looking at the things you posted you’ve got things those schools want. Make sure to write good essays, those are huge girl!

yeah make sure your essays are exceptional and your teachers have enough information/know you well enough to write personal and informed letters of recommendation

other than that, i’d say most of those fall within the match-mid reach range (heavily lopsided into match)

add some sure reaches and sure safeties and you look good :)

Don’t forget to sit down with your parents, and talk about how they expect you to pay for your education. All of these are excellent institutions, but they may not prove to be affordable for you. Make certain that your final list includes at least one institution that you can pay for, that you are guaranteed admission to based on your stats, and that you would be happy to attend if all else goes wrong in the admissions cycle.

Take a look at this list and see if anything would work for you: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/848226-important-links-automatic-guaranteed-merit-scholarships.html

someone posted a while back, and i thought was good advice, that the best way to pick a safety school is to take your dream school and find a school that’s extremely similar in all regards except for selectivity (and probably but extension, academics)
