I'm trying to find out how much I would have to pay at a few of the schools I am applying to. My EFC is 0, so I am using the "average percent of need met" figures found on the College Board's website, multiplying that times the COA, and subtracting.

Is this the right way to be calculating this? I'm not factoring in federal financial aid yet.

The “average percentage of need met” tells you nothing.

Many students may have very little need, so a small loan fills their need. That would skew the results.

Fed aid is factored into those numbers. Those numbers do NOT just represent institutional aid. They probably represent a lot of fed aid.

Those with 0 EFCs have to be VERY careful about where they apply.

What schools are you applying to?

What are your stats? GPA? ACT? SAT including breakdown

Do you have a non-custodial parent?
