Hi. I'm a sophomore, and I'm going to be going into engineering(as a career). At my school, next year, I'll be taking AP Physics, Calculus, and Stat, and I need to take the SAT Math 2c, and the SAT. I was wondering if it's a good idea to get the TI-89, and learn how to use it. Is it used for engineering in college?

Also, will I learn less by using the stuff in the TI-89? Thanks for your help.

you wont learn less stuff. Basically, the calculator isnt set up (originally) so that you plug in any equation and you get any answer you're looking for. You actually have to know what your doing when using one. Plus, in college (and in HS) most math tests are non-calc, and when you get into physics, unless you program the calc, you won't loose anything learning experience. So go ahead and get one.

No way. Get the TI-89. If you are doing anything technical in college, it will pay off BIG time.

^ I second that motion!

^I guess MIT minds think alike ('cause collegeguy also goes to MIT for those who dunno)

l0l ny that's my old nick :p

I was just doing it to confuse people ;)

Ooooh, lol, 'cause I went on the other birthday thread, and that dude did the same thing, so I was like "I better warn collegeguy that someone's stalking him!!!! To the bat mobile!"

LOLLll!

Yeah I just recently recovered the pw ;)

But I didn't like the nick anyway. I'll stick with this one, and use the other to make my opinion seem really popular! :D

Muahahahaha, all is going according to plan...

excellent...... excellent.....

In communist county, Cat adopts you!

I think we've successfully hijacked this thread!

muahahahahahhh, exactly as planned

Hey collegeguy, you gotta stop talking to yourself man.

Whoa. sorry I went to bed, so I couldn't reply. Well, right now I have a TI-84, and I looked at a TI-89 and I totally didn't get how to use it. Should I still get it?($ is not a huge deal) Is it good to get used to using the 89? Thanks

Yes you should still get it. You will learn how to use it quickly :)

It has so much more functionality that it is definitely worth it over the long term

thanks. is it used much in college? i thought many tests were without calc.

I use it practically every day in college.

Since I'm an engineering major, calculus is everywhere. Also having the ability to solve symbolic equations is a major plus.
