I am thinking of applying to stanford and MIT, my fmaily move back to Taiwan since I was 2 years old, and I never study in the US since then, but I do have a US passport. Am I considered a international or domestic student if I am applying to MIT and stanford? From what I know I think I am considered a domestic, but I want to make sure. Thanks!
You’re a domestic student residing overseas
Yes, you would be considered a domestic student.
You are a domestic applicant for financial aid purposes. Contact each college/university on your list, let them know that you are a US citizen who has been educated abroad, and ask what information they need from you. Do not be surprised if each place has a different list, or if one place requires you to complete parts of the international student application. Just do what A asks for A, and what B asks for B, and you will be fine.
Wishing you all the best!
thanks a lot
I will contact colleges as soon as possible
Do you need financial aid? If so, are your parents US citizens or Permanent Residents? If they are, have they been filing US tax returns?
My mom is a US citizen and also a Taiwan citizen, my dad is only a Taiwan citizen
My mom has been filling the US tax forms I believe
Also I relized that international students are harder to get into colleges like MIT, so will I have a higher chance since I am considered domestic?

The MIT admit rate for domestic students is very bleak, too. So don’t do cartwheels.

True, but it’s WAY worse for internationals, who can’t even apply early to MIT and who are at a strong disadvantage in RD.
Please, please, PLEASE expand your list beyond MIT & Stanford.
While u are categorized as a domestic applicant, your country of residency & race will do u no favors at these 2 schools, as u will be completing in a tough applicant pool against other ethnic-asian candidates and other applicants from taiwan.
