Am I considered a first generation college student if a grandparent graduated college?

I’ve always wondered if I’m still considered a first-gen college student if my parents didn’t graduate from college. My dad graduated HS, and my mom had some college. Also, my maternal grandfather has his Masters, does that count?

Thanks for an advice.

Your parents did not graduate from college but did they go to college at all? The definition vary from school to school. If your parents never go to college, they you are first generation college student for sure.

When you do the common ap. it asks where each parent went to college. For your dad- blank. For mom-X university. For her you would the tick the drop down box for her level of completion, and there is a choice for some college but no degree.
