My dad has an associate's degree and my mom didn't go to college.
My grandmother on my dad's side had a master's degree, though. She died in 1978.
My parents don't get along and they're separating/divorcing (not sure which) soon and my mom will have sole custody of me.
Obviously I'm not technically first-generation but I just wanted to know if I would be considered first-generation for scholarships and whatnot. Some of them only ask about the college status of your parents.

The reason they do this rather than ask “Are you first gen to college?” is because different colleges/scholarships/programs have different definitions. If you want to know if you will be considered first gen, you will need to contact the specific college/scholarship/program and ask what their definition is.

Divorce and custody are non-issues, you still have 2 parents that are considered for first gen status.
