Am I considered a junior level or senior level transfer?

I’ve been at community college for a few years and will have over 90 units by the time I attend university next year. I’ve never attended a 4-year, only community college. On the UC website it says junior level transfers have 60-89 units completed and senior level transfers have 90 or more units by the time they enter a UC. I’m worried because I won’t be able to apply to some UCs if I were a senior level transfer…

If all your transferable units were taken at a community college (lower division) then the cap is 70 semester/105 quarter units and the rest of your units will be given subject credit so you will be a Junior level transfer. You should be fine even with the 90+ units and able to apply to all the UC’s.

I have 85 units right now and will have 99 units by the time I’m done with community college. I talked to two UC Davis reps and my community college transfer counselor, and if you look at the transfer admission requirments its says there is no limit in how many units you can take at a community college, only 70 units will be transfered. You can have 200 semester units and they will only take 70 semeseter units. They will decide which classes’s units they want to transfer based on major and minimum requirment classes. So I hope this gives you peace of mind. You are absolutely okay. People who went to a 4 year university, dropped out and then went to a community college need to be worried about units.

Since you attended only community college(s), all of your college credit is lower division. UCs cap lower division transfer credit at 70 semester (105 quarter) units, although all courses completed will count for subject credit for specific course requirements. So you will be considered a junior-level transfer to UCs.

So on the application we will still put that we are senior level transfer?

You will put down junior. Your units will cap at 70, even though you get subject credit for all transferable courses. (As ucbalumnus said.)

Thanks for letting me know!

https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/Transfer_Credit_Practice.pdf is the UC document on the matter.

I have been wondering, if the UC’s cap at 70 units then why do they list the option of senior level transfer?

Upper division course work (junior/senior level courses at any four year school) and course work at a UC is not capped at 70 semester or 105 quarter units, so a transfer student with such course work could have 90 semester or 135 quarter units or more.

Can you give me an example so I can understand fully!

So I confirmed with a UC Davis rep for my community college today on if I should put junior or senior transfer and she told me to choose the option as junior level transfer even though I will have 90+ units because UC’s will transfer 70 units only which makes me a junior and reason for that is because I have been taking courses from a community college only. People who took courses at a 4 year university and then took courses at a community college will choose the option of senior level transfer.

You’ve asked this several times now and every single person has told you to put junior, including your advisor. I am closing this conversation.
