Am I considered an International Student? Or, what must I do?

Hi,

Well, this is my story:
I'm 16, I was born in Chicago, but I've been living & studying 14 years of my life in Spain, USA (only 10th grade) and now High School in Mexico. (My mom is Spanish and my dad is Mexican) In 2016 I hope to be studying in the US and entered to college. Actually, I'll be finishing high school with an American and Mexican certificate. Another thing is that I haven´t done any test such as TOEFL. Then, would I enter as an american? Are scholarships the same for international and national students?

As an American citizen, you can apply for federal aid but when you apply to the schools they will compare you to other students who have been educated in other countries.

Since you’ve not been educated in an English speaking country, it’s probably best for you to take te TOEFL to certify your level in English. You actually get the best of both worlds: you bring diversity and you’ll be compared based on the systems that educated you, but if you get in you’ll be considered an American for financial aid purpose which is MUCH much better (and less competitive) than for international students.
