Am I considered Latino/Hispanic?

My mother's full European(German, Czech, ect) and my father is 50%-100% Nicaraguan by blood(ambiguity around the nationality of his mother causes for the 50% gap). My father was born in American, to bililingual parents, but because of family issues, he was seperated from his birth family around the age of 5.

My father considers himself Latino, then "White" when filling out forms(and he definitely looks Latino), and he says that I should do the same because I have Nicaraguan Blood in me. The thing is, I don't speak Spanish, nor do I look in appearance like I am anything but white.

So when I'm filling out the Common App... do should I say "yes" to "Are you of hispanic or latino origin?" And then click "white" as my background? Or do I not count as "latino" for the purposes of the common app?

Race is honestly such a complex subject - I’m a Chinese adopted kid, so I don’t know whether to put Asian even though by blood, I’m 100% Chinese. I say just go with your gut - but be consistent. If you say “yes” to the Hispanic/Latino question, check White as well as something else so not to confuse.

OP- There is a hispanic forum on CC that can answer your question. Here is the link which I recommend you read. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/hispanic-students/641650-hispanic-latino-defined-aka-am-i-hispanic.html
