<p>Thank you for your application for admission to the University of Maryland. The Admission Committee has completed an initial review of your application but is not yet able to reach a final decision. In order to make a final decision, we would like to consider your grades from the first semester of your senior year to determine if you are among our most competitive applicants. Please arrange to have your high school send us your grades as soon as possible. You will be notified of a final decision by April 1.</p>

<p>deferred means you were moved from the earlier admission round to regular. this just seems like they want more information.</p>

<p>just look up the word deferred... it has nothing to do with this.</p>

<p>It sounds as though they need this final piece (1st semester senior year grades) to make their decision. Your application might be borderline and proof of a strong 1st semester senior year may be enough to swing the decision towards an acceptance. Have your GC send it ASAP and include with it any updated information such as new awards, recognitions, or leadership positions.</p>

<p>What did you apply? It seems late if you did ED, but if it's RD, they would not need more info.</p>

<p>I don't think this means deferred. Deferred only happens to ED applicants. It looks to me like they are somewhat interested in you, but they are missing your 1st semester grades from your file? This is what it appears to me--but I didn't apply to this college so I can't say for sure.</p>
