Am I doing everything right?

Note: since I'm only taking the full SAT in March, this is pretty subjective. I just want to see if I'm on the right track for a few schools. Also, sorry in advance for the lack of formatting.

SAT I: not taken yet, but I've been getting between 2200 and 2300 on my practice tests, aiming for 2300+

PSAT: 217: 78 math, 76 reading, 63 writing <---:(

SAT II US History: 800

Relevant ECs:

First place at University of Pittsburgh MUN (2010)

Summer work/programs:

Research assistant at the University of Pittsburgh Dept. of Cardiology (2008), not sure if I should mention this, since it doesn't directly pertain to my current interests

Selected to attend local seminar on international affairs sponsored by local World Affairs Council (2009)

Took a summer course in international relations at U. of Pitt, highest score in class (2009)

Worked in Allegheny County Executive's office- got to write/edit press releases, prepare letters and generally help out around the office (yep, that means coffee/clipping newspapers), I still go back from time to time (2009-present)

Taught chess for free to local elementary students

Was one of four local students selected to meet with and ask questions to Google CEO Eric Schmidt prior to the 2009 G-20 summit, I subsequently was interviewed by an NPR reporter

^Obviously, I haven't written essays yet, but I will probably write mine about this

Bottom line: decent grades/scores so far, ECs are nothing special

List of schools (anyone got any other suggestions?):

Princeton (huge reach, I know)
UChicago
UPenn
Columbia
Georgetown SFS
Duke
Johns Hopkins
UCB
UVA
Pitt

I’d say you’re a match for these:

Georgetown SFS
Duke
Johns Hopkins
UCB
UVA
Pitt

And you have a decent shot at the others, especially Chicago.

Thanks. 68 views and one post? C’mon. Does anyone else have feedback? I’ll chance you back…

Research assistant at the University of Pittsburgh Dept. of Cardiology (2008), not sure if I should mention this, since it doesn’t directly pertain to my current interests

hahah yes definitely report that. From your stats I assume you’re interested in law, but have no idea what type of law. There’s a sector of law that deals with medicine/biology related cases where it helps to have a background in bio/medicine. That could very well be your interest in the eyes of the college admission officers, even though it couldn’t be farther from the truth. and its a great thing to put on your resume anyhow.

Princeton (huge reach, I know)

keep up your stats and i’d say you’re in to
UChicago
UPenn
Columbia
Georgetown SFS
Duke
Johns Hopkins
UCB
UVA
Pitt

As for Princeton, you’d definitely fit in but you have as good a shot as all the other amazing applicants…which is 9% lol

Best of Luck

Shameless bump

Thanks for the chance, here’s yours back:

You’re a match for most. Ivy leagues are always unpredictable, but try for Princeton anyways. You never know.

Your ECs and academics are really strong. You’re very competitive. Good luck to you!

Your EC’s are strong and your GPA is spotless. Also, you SAT II’s are extremely impressive. Have you given a thought to the ACT?

UChicago Excellent Shot
UPenn Match
Columbia Great shot but it’s tough for anyone
Georgetown SFS Match for uni, I’m not sure what sfs is
Duke Match
Johns Hopkins Match
UCB ?
UVA Match (In)
Pitt In

Princeton - would be a reach for anyone…
UChicago - high match
UPenn - high match
Columbia - match
Georgetown SFS …?
Duke - low match
Johns Hopkins - match
UCB - ?
UVA - in
Pitt - in

you have good EC and GPA, and SAT would be good. So you should have a fair chance. just dont slack!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/879829-chance-junior-please.html</a></p>

Your EC’s are probably the weaker part of your application. The sad thing is that they aren’t actually weak at all, but with top colleges, you never know.

Princeton - Mid/High Reach. Shocking, I know.
UChicago - High Match
UPenn - Low Reach
Columbia - Low/Mid Reach
Georgetown SFS - I have no idea what SFS is, but for the college itself, I’d say Low Match.
Duke - High Match
Johns Hopkins - High Match
UCB - It’d probably be a lot easier if I knew what this was…
UVA and Pitt are probably more safeties than anything else.
UVA
Pitt

You have really good changes everywhere, honestly. I’d have to agree with the assessment above me, so good luck!! The only thing is, you might want to work on getting some demonstrated leadership.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/882302-chance-me-please-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

To be honest you are a match at all of those schools with a low reach and Princeton and maybe Duke. But those SAT 2 scores are unreal and if the SAT score is anywhere near 2300 you can go anywhere.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/879184-chance.html</a></p>

Your PSAT scores are amazing and your class schedule is rigorous and you’ve managed to keep your GPA extremely high (perfect haha). I would say you are a fit for all of those schools and

Princeton - Reach for practically anyone, but you are definitely a fit.
UChicago - In
UPenn - High Match
Columbia - Match
Georgetown SFS - In
Duke - In
Johns Hopkins - Match
UCB - Match
UVA - In
Pitt - In

Good luck!!

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/883501-chance-va-public-schools-any-others.html</a></p>

Thanks to all the people who chanced me. FYI, UCB=Berkeley (I guess no one else actually uses that acronym :P). Is there anything else that I should be working on?

oh hey pavan whats up.

I think that you are a good to go for everything except columbia princteton and chicago, which are lottories for everyone. Also, you better have gotten a better sat score last weekend lol

SAT ended up as 2260 (740 M, 740 CR, 780 W, 10E)

Will that significantly increase/decrease my chances at any of these schools? I might end up retaking the exam even though I’m feeling pretty good about those scores…
