This winter term I will be taking 15 credits as well as a part time job of 22 hours. I also will be working out and conditioning working on a track scholarship as well. (Around 1-2 hours of work a day). Does this sound like it’s too much? I’m only worried because this is my first full term of college. Thank you
It sounds to me like its approaching a full load, but I sometimes struggle with managing my time well. A lot depends on exactly how your schedule is laid out (i.e. working mostly on weekends, how is the class schedule laid out, etc?)
I would say go ahead and try it. If things don’t work out you could try dropping a class (as long as you aren’t required to take 15 hrs). Good luck!!!
Thank you, I only have one class on Tuesday and Thursday, the rest is online
Since you’ll have a lot of online classes, you’re going to have to be very disciplined with yourself. Have you ever had an online class before?
I think this is doable if you manage your time appropriately. I’d say that your first priority should obviously be your classes and your next priority your track stuff since you’re on a scholarship for it. The work is extra, and if you can manage it, then great. If it all starts to be too much, that’s where I’d start making some cuts.
The thing that I found most useful for online classes was to set of designated times for them. You can pretty much do the reading and do your assignments whenever you want (unless you have certain requirements set up by your instructor), but make a pattern of it. You work 10-2 and then work out 6-8? Maybe at 4 do an hour’s worth of studying and then pick up after dinner. Just make it consistent and make it work for you.
Ten to 15 hours are ideal for p/t work with a fill schedule. I’d say that was definitely too many hours. There is an adjustment to be made when you enter college if it is a college more difficult than your high school, the style is different, you have to learn discipline etc. There is a large studey that is often quoted here that students actually organize their time better with 10 to 15 hours work with a full time school schedule, but grades start falling when hours increase. Add to that competitive sport, which is like a p/t job and you are overscheduled, something is bound to give.
