I am applying Early Decision so Duke needs my first quarter grades, but the only problem is I will have a C in AP English because I have a 2.45, but my teacher won't round up. I have never gotten a C before in my life. I am very weak in English as I took honors last year. The rest of my schedule is AP Physics B, AP Calculus BC, AP Econ, Marine Bio, Business Ownership, which I should have all A's in. How much will getting a C harm my chances. Thanks

As long as you usually get As, they will not hold the C against you. It’s just going to be a minor blip. Make sure you do well in the rest of your classes though. I promise they won’t care too much. (My mom did admissions for Georgetown university)

That makes me feel a little bit better. Thanks for the answer. So you do not think they will solely reject me because of the C?

you. will. not. get. rejected. SOLEY. because. of. your. C. Have a little faith in the rest of your application.

You will not get rejected ED due to one low grade senior year. The worst case is that they would note that it is atypical based on your other grades and defer you to RD so that they can see the full semester performance. However, I doubt that one grade will make even that much difference.

Hopefully it wont make much of a difference. Also, I am not going into any type of English major so will they look upon the English grade with the same importance as my AP Economics grade (I got an A), which I plan on majoring in.

They will not reject you because of that. I promise. I am applying ED and I got a C in ap environmental science but the rest of my grades were As. As long as you usually get As you will be fine.
