So I do not know the specifics regarding my status but..
I have a H1 Visa.
Lived in America for 9 years( 9 years and 2 months)
Have a work permit
Have SSN
Also we have been pending on green card for 9 years.

I am a junior now and have almost 1 year left, hoping to get green card.
But I highly doubt it because some people I know have been living here for 10-13 years and are still pending.
Am I eligible? Some sites said that I am because I hold SSN but others say I am not.
Confused. Help please :)

Citizens, green card holders, and certain others (primarily refugees) can file the FAFSA. The list is right on the FAFSA website.

You can study here with an H1, so find out if your employer will help cover the costs. You also should read carefully through the IRS publications on tax deductions and credits for tuition and fees. I believe that you would be able to take advantage of those as well.

With an H1 visa, you are a working person. You probably can’t stop working to study. All the FAFSA would do is get you access to loans and you would need to attend classes essentially full time. This probably wouldn’t work so well. My bet is that you would be best off looking for classes the you can fit in around your work schedule part-time.

Whoops, just noticed the “junior”.

Do you have an H1? Or is your parent the H1? Doesn’t that make you an H2?

With H2 you are an international applicant for financial aid purposes. Check the policies is your state of residence. Some states will consider you in-state for tuition and fees.

If you want better work permission, you can convert to an F1 visa after you start college, but as you know, that still will be limited.
