Am I eligible for financial aid?

I am considering doing a 2 year program at a community college. I currently have 90+ hours at a different 4 year college. However, only 12 of those 90 hours are going to transfer into the community college program. I am wondering if I will be eligible for financial aid for the new program? Here is the wording in the financial aid catalog:

"Students receiving financial aid are also required to be making measurable progress toward their degree or certificate. Financial aid is only available for one and one half (1.5) times the program length (90 credit hours or as specified in the college catalog.) Semesters attempted while not receiving aid will also be counted toward the overall time limitations. Students must appeal should they wish to pursue a second degree at (the university). • Hours transferred from other colleges will be counted in the measurable progress limit."

Do you suspect all 90 hours at my first university will come into play here, rendering me ineligible for financial aid, or just the 12 hours that are being transferred directly into the program?

Thank you.

Generally all credit hours attempted anywhere will be counted toward SAP. I would expect you to have to appeal to see if they will award you aid.

Darn. Not looking good. Can’t afford it any other way.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Does everyone share the same interpretation?

I share the same interpretation. BUT the best thing for you to do is go talk to the community college folks. Perhaps THEY will have some different interpretation.

Thank you.

Will call tomorrow when they are open.

Why would so few credits transfer? CC’s are usually pretty lax about what they will take.

Only 12 are relevant towards the program I am applying(health career), whereas most of the 90 credits are geared towards a different major. So, technically I’m sure all of them would be accepted, but they are not relevant towards my degree progression.

I wonder what my chances are of a successful appeal. Hah, sorry, I know I should just wait but the suspense kills me.
