am i eligible for in-state student?

I am us citizen
I lived NY for four years and
attended high school in NY
however my parent are living abroad. They file foreign tax.
can I be an instate student?

I’m guessing…but I would guess not. In the vast majority of cases, the residency of an undergrad student is where his PARENTS live. If, for example, you were a boarding school student and had graduated high school in NY state, it would not matter at all…because your real permanent residency is that of your parents. I’m going to guess that even though YOU have lived here, that your residency for tuition purposes will still be that of your parents.

BUT I could be wrong. I’m hoping someone else will weigh in.

You need to check with the specific schools to which you apply. Each may have different residency requirements.

There are usually exceptions for students who graduated from in-state high schools. SUNY appears to have such a rule.

Yes, op meets the requirement to be granted in state tuition @ SUNY & If s/he is a grad of a NYC school, s/he is eligible for the in city rate @ CUNY

Great news for the OP!!!

Sybbie, just a quick question…if the student attended a residential boarding/prep school in NY State, would this still apply?

from SUNY
