Am I eligible to transfer as a Junior to Berkeley?

I have 12 college credits taken while I was in high school at a state flagship. I have, according to the UC AP Credit page, ~21.3 credits for my AP scores. By the end of my freshman year, I will have earned 32 transferrable credits in college.

Totaling this up is ~65 credits. Does this make me eligible to transfer to Berkeley as a Junior? Since Berkeley is closed to sophomore transfers, I was wondering if these leveraged credits would make me eligible for Junior status?

Can anyone help or provide any insight? Also, as a potential Junior transfer to Berkeley, I've already completed many/most of the pre-requisites for my intended major or could place out of many of them through exam. What to do....

Please help a brotha out! Thanks :)

Yes. You are in good shape. Plan out your next move with the college transfer center at your community college. Make an appointment- they will get you all straightened out in just a few minutes, and sort your paperwork. You may want to sign up for your AA diploma as well.

If it were me, I would be looking very seriously at doing credit by exam at the community college and transferring the courses that way, rather than waiting to do so at Berkeley. I would also plan to take classes at Berkeley Summer School to ease the transition. You need to stay in that 60 - 90 unit magic window, though- so no more than 25 units of credit by exam!

<a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors; indicates that the unit limit for transfer applicants does not include AP, IB, or A-level credit.

Having at least 60 transferable semester units by the time of transfer meets that part of the transfer eligibility, but you also need to check specific course prerequisites. If you are at a California community college, you can look up major preparation requirements and breadth requirement courses at http://www.assist.org .

To clarify, which you really should do with your transfer office, @ucbalumnus is referring to the MAXIMUM limit, not the Minimum unit limit of 60. So stay below 46 units of credit by exam- in either case it is an off-hand pleasantry, you would never come close. You should be OK, but get thee to the transfer office and work out your specific case!

I see threads where people bemoan community colleges and PROVE they are substandard by trotting out their low graduation rates. You obviously don’t need to, but help the school out and apply for your AA degree, too. It’ll be fun to have that sheepskin to hang on the wall!
