am i even competitive for UCB OOS?

4.3 weighted gpa out of 4 (max being 5 if you took all honors/ap classes and got A's in all of them)
top 8% in class of 700
32 ACT
4.4 gpa soph/jun year
SAT subject- MAth 2-725, US history- 730
ec's- good not great
some pretty good awards
essays should be great
IS UCB OOS a match/slight reach/ reach/ or impossible for me?
thanks a lot

r u in-state?

It's a match, but at $40K/yr with almost no financial aid for OOS students, why choose it for undergrad? Great grad schools but for undergrad all you get is huge classes, cut throat competition and a bad chance of graduating in 4 years. That could make it more expensive than most privates, and if you can get in OOS you can get into some great privates.

You should be a match to Cal, though as bobby said the 40K a year probably isn't worth it. There are some top privates that might give you some good financial aid/scholarship money.

UCs are a great deal for Californians, not so much for everybody else.

thanks for the replies, but I have something that says OOS tutition is 19,000 and the fees are about 6 grand. No idea where the 40K a year is coming from. Would UVA and UNC be better options?

what would some good privates be, along w/ UVa and UNC?

You seem to have similar stats to me, and UCB as well as UNC (and formally UVa) are on my list. I'm crossing my fingers that they're matches/low reaches!

As far as OOS tuition+otras fees go, I have not seen anything less than 30 grand a year, that being William and Mary, a public. UVa is around 35 if I rememeber correctly, and privates are 40 grand +. I honestly have not seen a private for cheaper than that. UCB seems to be comparable in price to other state schools on its tier.

I tried to apply to some schools where I thought I might get some merit aid, like Syracuse. If you're into journalism and need money, places like that are great options.

The rest is room and board, rent in Berkeley being high.

It was previously mentioned above that opportunities for OOS students are limited, w/ bad chance to graduate in 4 years and huge classes. I know the school is big, but would it be a lot better to go to a public school out east like UVA and UNC- i live in the midwest.
