I got in like two weeks ago but i also have a big worry about my admission. Im an Illinois high school student and in my state, fine arts courses arent a requirement at all. I practically had plastic surgery done on my senior schedule to get it to include two fine arts classes (A-G requirement) in one semester. I applied to UCSD when i was in those two classes but i dropped one after like 3 weeks ( thus not satisfying one consecutive year of fine arts). I let them know that i dropped photography after I was admitted but received a general thank you email. IS MY ADMISSION GONNA GET NULLIFIED?!?!?!

It’s never a good idea to drop classes like that, but who knows, they might keep you.

So you didn’t satisfy UCs art requirement then?

I’m pretty sure that you will get rescinded unless you complete 1 full year of art. Is it possible to finish it at a community college?

Yeah pretty much. I got the impression that the fine arts requirement was more directed towards the California high school kids. I’m not sure how strict they are on that nonense

Why on earth did you drop it?

God it was such an awful class. They dont understand that a class like photography in a non art-oriented school is a complete blow off class full of random kids that I’ve never had in any of my smart classes. It was ultimately detrimental to my intellect. Did you get in? what state?

Still, you should have kept it, looks like you are probably in some hot water now. Contact UCSD, tell them you can do a fine arts class at your local CC, and hope to God they let it pass.

Yeah, I was admitted this month, I’m a Cali resident.

interesting…ill probably have to do that eventually anyways if I dont get into USC. But for cali public high schools, do they make arts courses a grad. requirement? jw

Yes, but that doesn’t make UCSD’s art requirement any less necessary for out-of-staters. Hell, if anything, they hold you guys to a higher standard :p

Actually, the art course is not necessarily required for graduation at a California high school. For example, at my school, either one year of art or language will satisfy the requirement for graduation.
Unfortunately, the F requirement for UCs is what trips up most OOS applicants. But, OP, you said that you took two art classes 1st sem. so if you still are taking one of those classes, you should be fine and not be rescinded.

“I’m not sure how strict they are on that nonsense”

Is this a joke?! There have been tons of people to come on here and talk about how their admission was rescinded or their friends got rescinded. UCSD takes it very seriously - if they just let everyone off then there would be no point of having the rule in the first place. I’m not trying to sound harsh but if one year of fine arts is required in the A-G thing, it’s obviously one of the key things they want you to have. I hope this makes sense.

“They dont understand that a class like photography in a non art-oriented school is a complete blow off class full of random kids that I’ve never had in any of my smart classes. It was ultimately detrimental to my intellect.”

look kid, i know you are in high school and you have not experienced a whole lot of “real life” yet, but in college, the school doesnt give a sh** if you got a crappy teacher or if you didnt like your classmates or whatever. you knew it was a requirement, why did you drop it? you really need to learn to suck it up and get you work done, even if you dont like it or enjoy it. not trying to insult you, but if you are going to make it at any higher education institutions than you need to change your work ethic.

with that being said, it might not be too late. do what everyone else is saying and send them an email saying you are going to take a beginning arts class at your local CC. then, actually DO it. hopefully you can save yourself, it sounds like you worked hard to get into UCSD i would hate to hear that you get rescinded for a dumb decision.

First of all, congratulations for getting in! UCSD is no cakewalk, and especially not for OOS students.

However, UCs require that for your senior courseload, that you don’t drop what you listed as your first semester courses. It kindof defeats the purpose of telling them what courses you’re taking senior year.

Simple Answer: Yes, your admission decision is at stake. However, it is probably possible to take that course (or some other one) at a local CC over summer or something. Maybe even go to UCSD this summer, start early, and do that course. Who knows. Call the admissions office when they are open.

Good luck

indeed, good luck. dont wait though
