Hi, I'm a Junior right now interested in a future career in medicine and was wondering if I'm on the right track to get into University of Pennsylvania (I'm going to apply Early Decision), Johns Hopkins University, University of Southern California, and Wake Forest University.

Awards:
Can't say I have many but I've made honor roll every year since Kindergarten :P
And have recieved certificates of advanced proficiency from a piano festival that takes place in my region every year.

Any feedback or comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I can tell you right now that you might be on the right track, but you are at best a maybe (likely doubtful) for Penn. If you don’t have U.S. citizenship and you need financial aid, you might as well say you are screwed.

Apart from you being Editor in chief and couple president spots, you don’t have anything else spectacular that stands out. Your resume seems more like a grocery list (you don’t have much awards… honor roll is something that exists in almost every application to Ivy League)

Seeing how you have 5+ volunteer spots and only 180 hours, it makes you look like you did just a little of each to look good only on the resume, and to some it brings up the question of you being a quitter.

Your math score in SAT 1 is rather low, and taking Math I SAT II is not exactly the best route you can take. It doesn’t scream spectacular student at all.

Do you think my chances are better at Wake or USC?

Don’t worry I’m a permanent resident and am going to be a citizen this coming summer.

Most of my volunteering is in EMTing where I have 150ish hours but I also tried lots of other volunteering.

Yeah apart from middle school awards and student of the month and student of the MP I really didn’t recieve many awards.

Thanks for you SAT II recommendation, I really only want to do math because the college of engineering and applied sciences recommends it, but I’d gladly take the English one.

Now knowing that you have a green card, I’d say your chances are a bit better. Again, “tried lots of other volunteering” only reinforces what I said earlier.

If you are going to apply to SEAS, my recommendation is to take Math II. Hands down, you CANNOT survive in SEAS without strong skills in math, period. Given your low math score in SAT I, if you avoid taking Math II, your chances of getting into SEAS will drop dramatically. Now if you were applying to CAS or Wharton under non-math related major, that would be a different story.

I do not know much about Wake, USC, or Hopkins.

you should DEFINITELY take Math II for the SAT II’s and definitely try to get that SAT I math score up. right now you are looking good for Wake Forest and USC but John’s Hopkins and UPenn are reaches for basically everyone, even if you had a 2400. You have good EC’s but just make sure you just don’t list them and give more of a concise list that means the most to you so it doesn’t look like the aforementioned grocery list. Good luck!!!
