Am I going to be rescinded?

So I failed a calculus course because I got a F 2nd semester of senior year. I emailed the admissions office of the college I committed to (University of Miami) and explained the family situation I was involved in and gave evidence.

The day after, the senior assistant director of admission emailed me back and said, "We have reviewed the documents you’ve sent as a committee, and there will be changes to our admission decision. Thank you for keeping us in the loop, and we’ll see you in the fall."

What does that mean?! I can't help but look at it negatively, and I know they purposely made it vague. Am I going to be rescinded for sure?

(I applied and was admitted for Undeclared Arts and Sciences.)

Also, should I take any other action right now? Should I email them back asking them something, like what I should do or etc.?

It sounds like you might be put on probation when you get there (have to get a minimum of X GPA), but, you’re in!

Don’t worry about the probation (if that’s what it is) – considering your circumstances with your family situation, it’s more to protect you. If you don’t meet that minimum GPA, they can suspend you immediately until you’re feeling better, when you can come back and succeed. It’s better than letting you flail around for a semester before being put on probation, and having two bad semesters behind you before you’re suspended (if it comes to that).

You can maybe send one email asking what they mean, otherwise I’d leave it for now; they’ll surely go into more detail about it later. Take care, and good luck! :D

That’s really weird. It almost sounds like they forgot a word and it should say:

“We have reviewed the documents you’ve sent as a committee, and there will be NO changes to our admission decision. Thank you for keeping us in the loop, and we’ll see you in the fall.”

“We’ll see you in the fall” definitely sounds like you won’t be rescinded, and I’m sure if it was drastic, they’d tell you, unless they’re planning to follow up in a few days.

That’s what I thought too rebeccar. And if it’s not a typo, I think it’s sort of lame that they don’t just come out and say what the consequences are of the grade. College admissions are such a game in so many ways to begin with, I’d like to think that once you’re in…your school of choice would just speak plain English and not Admissions-ese.

If I were you I’d call or email them to ask for clarification about what they meant. In particular you want to have them clearly say they have not rescinded you. Quote their email and ask your questions.

I would call too because thats kinda ambiguous. I wouldn’t worry too much though, as “We’ll see you in the fall” is difficult to type by accident.

Thanks so much for all the replies. I asked the Dean on College Confidential as well and the lady also said that it could’ve been a typo…although I hope it actually is, I kind of doubt that they would make such a mistake. I guess I’ll make a call!
