Am i going to get rescinded..please...help

Here are my grades for this quarter
A-AP Euro
A-AP Econ
A-AP Government
A-AP English
A-Phsiology
B-AP Chem
D-AP Physics

I'm a political science major and for what it's worth, I've never done well in Math or Science (my only C last year and 3 B's in other science and maths) I was accepted to Duke Early Decision. My semester grades are what is sent to Duke following the end of 2 quarters and my finals (a semester). So that D could be brought up by getting excellent grades on the final and 4th quarter. IF I can't get it up, what are the chances I get rescinded? (granted, my father has been very sick, had surgery, i had to take care of him this quarter-resulting in my bad grade perhaps?). Getting the grade up for this quarter isn't an option-I study over 4 hours for every test and STILL seem to fail...SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.

bump…someone please help…4 years of my dedication to school could be completely thrown away because of this one quarter in one class that I’m awful at…

not to mention, i applied to 13 other schools and withdrew every single application the day i was accepted to Duke so I wouldn’t even have any other options.

what did Duke say ???

i haven’t called yet…i’m too scared

give me your info, i will call them for you …

if Duke said ‘NO, NO’, you are hosed …

Honestly, one D probably won’t get you rescinded, especially next to 4 AP As.

You usually have to be getting multiple Ds or an E/F to get rescinded.

…now why would I do that?

does anyone have any actual insight?

It most likely will not affect you. They will probably send a letter admonishing you, and requiring an explanation for this drop in grades. As long you give them a solid answer better than “I just felt like being lazy” you should be fine.

I do not think you have anything to worry about. Additionally, I guess it depends on the school, but for the most part quarter grades are not actually recorded. Just relax. Maybe you can call Duke or have someone else call and ask a “general” question without being specific. I think it would help you relax.

I know it’s just the quarter but if I end up with a D for the semester, will I get rescinded? I’ve been reading CC a lot and everyone is saying that a D is very fair grounds to rescind.

@nervousone10 …I am not trying to be flip, but just do not get a D. Talk to the teacher and find out what you are missing. Maybe you can find a tutor that can help you one on one. You are obviously a smart kid. I think you might just have a mental block that if someone explains it to you differently you will be fine.

That said, I still do not think you will be rescinded for just one D. Especially since it is Duke. Most of the problems come with core classes that are needed for qualification. I also think it would be a bigger problem if it was a State University. Many State schools are just Black/White. Private schools are not like that. Please try and relax.

Hah, I was in your situation…except I got the D in ap calc but I called my college (Notre Dame) and they said they wouldn’t rescind me…Duke and ND are comparable I suppose. I was also a poli sci major and I have your grades exactly, as in all A’s, a B, and a D. It was fine. You should definitely call and ask to speak to your admissions counselor…mine was definitely understanding and helped me throughout the entire way. Yours will probably do the same.

should I call them now at the end of the 3rd quarter, or wait until I’m done with 4th quarter and finals when I’ll know the exact grades Duke will be receiving for my semester 2 report? I dont wanna seem like an idiot, make a whole sha-bang about the D and end up not getting it. But then again, I wanna be prepared for it if it does happen. What’d you do

Once I got my grade, I called the admissions office and asked to talk to my admissions counselor, and I explained to her the entire situation, which was that it was a tough class and I exhausted what seemed, to me, like every facet possible (private tutoring, peer tutoring, and online videos) but it wasn’t good enough for me, and etc. Basically, I just gave a whole explanation and what I planned to do. Talk to your admissions counselor and see what they have to say first before you do anything!

If 1 D in all ap courses probly won’t get someone rescinded, would it be safe to say an A 2 Bs and a C also won’t?

Hey nervousone, did you get your offer rescinded in the end?
