I've already asked about this, but I need a clarification. If you're failing AP Physics, and so are more than half of the class, but all of the kids are bright students (got into prestigious schools, got good grades since 9th grade, etc.), am I still going to get rescinded? It's not like I completely don't try in my AP Physics class. I come to school 30-40 minutes early, go to my Physics teacher to ask questions about the homework, and I also ask questions during class. Yet, I am still failing. What should I do? Should I write a letter to them explaining this? (hand-written), or should I email them about it, or should I just not do anything until the final grades are up? What if they rescind me already if I tell them now?

They won't rescind you until they see a final grade but if that final grade is a D or an F they have all the right to rescind you (and they probably will?).

Mm. It couldn't possibly hurt to send them either a hand-written letter or an e-mail right now (I would think the hand-written would be maybe slightly better if you have decent handwriting) informing them of your situation and what you plan to do about in case you fail, or even regardless (i.e. take the class again at a cc over the summer).

Personally, if I were to write, I would tell them about all the effort you are putting into the class but not the bit about the "bright students" who got into "prestigious schools" & etc. since it sounds a tad whiny. Maybe the whole lot of you can go up to the teacher and explain everyone's situations to her and see if she can't come up with an extra credit project or something?

I really hope this stuff works out for you and that I can see you at UCSD next year :)

I wouldn't write a letter until you are completely certain that you are going to fail. If you write to early they might just blacklist you or something so they rember to check your final grade.

The best thing you can do for yourself is put all your strength in that class and try to nail the final and get As on the rest of the assignments. dont give up!

maybe talk to your teacher to explain your concerns.

Mm I think when you send them the transcript and it has a D or an F on it, they automatically rescind you; it's all done with a computer and a verifying program. That is, there's no chance that they'll just "forget" to check your final grade nor that you'll get lucky and they simply will not check your final grade.

Just so you don't decide to try and sneak by x_x

I guess I should just send them a hand-written letter explaining what's going on. =\ I'm just really scared that they'll rescind me. Should I tell them that I will retake Physics at a community college?

hand-written letter???

That'd be the dumbest idea; you'd look like a child. Don't hand write it.

I thought handwriting the letter would be more personal. Like if I were to just type it, then who knows who wrote it for me, right? It would be pretty impersonal to type the letter. I know it's more sophisticated to type it, but shouldn't handwriting it mean that this means more to me?

wollrich: They have a blacklist? Don't they check for everyone's grades anyway?

Most UC's have an email address they want you to send this information to. You might want to call the office and ask what is the best way to notify them. As to your physics class, if half the class is failing the teacher is failing. Have you gone to the administration with this issue? Will the teacher raise your grade if you pass the AP test?

I was in the same situation (except I have a D in AP Calc) and I freaked out as well. There are also a ton of smart kids in my class who are also failing. I freaked out and started to write a letter, but I didnt mail it. What you should do is, you should either go individually/ with the rest of your class to the teacher and explain your situation. Teachers really do not want to jeopardize your future by failing you, especially if they see you working hard. Its understandable if you are slacking off and deserve a D/F, but if you are trying to get the concepts, you do not deserve to get a D/F. Explain your situation and ask the teacher whether he can do anything to help. If your teacher says that he might give you say.. brownie points for effort, or lots of extra credit, then work your ass off. If he says that he won't fail you if he sees your working hard, then you should make sure you let the teacher know that you are working hard. Ask questions before class, during class, see him during lunch, hound his office, email him.. [ lol dont stalk him]. Now if you teacher says that he can't help, then either get your parents involved, or proceed to mail the letter WITH a small note/ recommendation from your teacher saying that you are working hard and bla bla. Also, if you do not want a teacher rec from you teacher, then write the letter [make it slightly emotional] show it to him [it might make him reconsider] and have him sign it. Do no give up!!! work very very hard in physics. But remember to not let your other grades go down.

good luck!

i heard more news of what i should do... like calling the admissions office and tell them what my situation so that they can work it out with me. like maybe they'll tell me to retake the class over the summer at a community college or something... i dunno. i'll do anything to not get rescinded.

but i like the advices that you guys gave me! thanks :)
