Woah.. TEN AP's next year??? Anyways, if you have to choose one, choose Spanish, unless you're majoring in environmental science. Your EC's show focus, and that you're quite accomplished. However, you'll need really strong essays, as right now you seem very standard.. Most of these are what other ivy applicants have. You need to show your unique. I'm sure you'll get in some ivies though so don't worry.

no those aps are for junior and senior year....im also taking a math class at the university of wisconsin madison because i took calc bc junior year

wat else might make me unique besides essays?
and should i take the sat 1?

Fire: Why do you want to go to an Ivy?

^ That's a good question

ivy schools have lots of history and a strong academic challenge that i find fascinating. other schools may also provide a rigorous curriculum but they lack the roots that makes a school deep and full of culture. I believe that college is more than just a place for knowledge, but also a place for personal growth and cultural understanding..this is why i like ivies

your stats are extremely qualified, but if you limit yourself to ivies, then you have bigger issues. the ivies are known for excellence, but college is about your interests and personal growth. also, your year is supposedly the hardest admissions year ever, so you should consider other options although you will definitely get into at least a couple if you apply to all of the ivies.

your accomplishments are exceptional but the ECs show you have interest in many fields, its not concentrated to a couple. still, the accomplishments are big, like states. asian male will be a hindrance- but you should be able to do

dartmouth: big on languages, business, and i know a good swimmer who was recruited... it seems to fit your interests best.
brown: science is big here, if you want to go pre-med its top-notch.

top ivies like HYP will be unpredictable...
but honestly, all ivies are good in different ways.
best of luck...

I think Fire has as good a chance as anyone -- his scores are great, hard coursework, great GPA, good ECs -- but, as my sons' wise GC said, "the Ivies are a reach for anyone." There are absolutely, positively no guarantees, even if you're valadictorian, score 2400, and have cured cancer. See this thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/498251-another-stepford-applicant-rejected-all-ivies.html?highlight=stepford

Fire should expand his horizons, not fall in love with just one school, look for a safety that he would be happy to attend, and hope for the best.

Edit: There are lots and lots of other schools that are also "old" -- that is, founded 150 years ago, like Northwestern, Washington & Lee, others. Really. Please, expand your horizons.

yea im not limiting myself to ivies....im also applying to allllot of other colleges

rice
northwestern
upenn
uw madison
minnesota twin cities
univeristy of chicago
nyu
columbia
rochester
emory
duke

Good, good. Glad to see it. BTW, UPenn and Columbia are also Ivies . . .

haha oops typed too much

i have a question tho...i prolly wont get that high of a score on the sat 1 but i have really good scores for sat 2...so should i take sat 1 and risk getting a bad score and sending all the scores in or should i just send in the act?

would it affect my chances if i dont take the sat 1?

Where are you from? If you're from the midwest then I think it'd be normal to just take the ACT, but if you're from the coasts then colleges are going to wonder why you didn't take the SAT.

What everyone says about a standard student is not always correct. Take me for example. I'm just another one of those average "strong" candidates, and everyone says "you're just normal" or "why would they want you?"

I wouldn't worry too much about that (of course, I didn't get into HPS, but that's not the point). And I also understand your wanton desires to go to an Ivy League school. However, don't limit yourself. I applied to 6 of the 8 Ivies (got into 6 of them), but I chose Duke over all of them. Ivy League schools are great, but everyone knows that they are overrated. Keep your mind open. When I applied to the colleges, Duke was an afterthought, just in case I don't get accepted into those top tier schools, I would just add in another application to better my odds. Now, I plan on attending.

Good luck next year.
