Am I good enough for BMC?

Hi, I’m Ann and I’m currently a high school junior interested in Bryn Mawr College. Do you think I am good enough to get into BMC? I’m just curious. How do you think I can improve my chances?

GPA: 3.9 but dropping due to a heavy course load. Will probably end up being somewhere between a 3.75-3.80.
SAT total: 1900 (but I am taking them once more and will probably improve)
Taken 1 AP course junior year, and scheduled for 2 more senior year. Several honors classes. Respectable course load, mostly good grades, and a big improvement from freshman to sophomore year.
Member of NHS.
Participant in the musical and theatre companies outside of school.
A lot of volunteer work with theatre, and some with other organizations.
Co-editor of literary magazine.
Summer job.
Skilled at writing, so my essays are bound to be good.
Close will teachers, so my recs will probably be good too.

Do you think, as of half way through my junior year of high school, that I am good enough to get accepted into Bryn Mawr? How would you say to improve?

Thanks a ton and congrats to those who got accepted!

Good enough? For sure you are good enough to go to Bryn Mawr or anyplace else. Don’t let the college admissions process let you define who you are. If necessary, look in the mirror every morning and exclaim, “Damn I’m good!”

As far as your grades, courses, etc. You seem to be solid and probably have a good shot. Your chances seem to be enhanced if you apply ED, and/or let Bryn Mawr know you consider them your first choice and are very interested in being a part of the community.

College admissions can be illogical. You may get into Princeton and not get into Penn State. Or in the case of a young man we know, he got into Yale but not University of Wisconsin, Madison.

•SAT Writing: 610 / 700
•ACT Composite: 27 / 31

Good luck with your search. :)

Hard to imagine a more inspiring post, h3licoptermom!

Anniefab, I’d keep it in sight as you work your way through the application process, next year. May your essays dazzle the readers! I’d also think about including an example or two of your creative efforts. Help the Admissions staff see how much you can add to campus life and class discussions.

Thanks so much!
