Hi! My name is Ricky, and I just wanted to fully understand my chances in getting into one of my top schools. I am a high school senior, latino (Puerto Rican) male, 1st generation, ranked 4 in my class (only male in my top 10), GPA of 3.9 out of 4.0, SATI: 1740, SATII: Math- 590 English Literature- 600, I've taken all AP courses my school has to offer, non stop extracurriculars including: President of Mock Trial, President of Model United Nations, Theater, Choir, Newspaper, Humanitarian Club, Treasurer for Student Council, and 300+ of community service hours, I have won a few state-wide speech contests and worked on multiple political campaigns for locally, state-wide and national candidates. I would like to study Political Science and International Relations and hopefully go to Law School. My top schools are: Columbia (My Dream School), Harvard, Tufts, Northeastern, Vassar, UChicago, Northwestern and Georgetown. I have applied to safeties (Suffolk, Umass Boston, Umass Amherst and Skidmore) and 1 target school (Fordham University) and I've already been accepted to Suffolk and Umass Boston and now just waiting on my top schools. Can you guys give your opinion on my chances and please voice any opinions on which one I should decide to go to based on the very minimal information I have provided (Although I know it's a personal choice, any feedback would be greatly appreciated).

Your scores are very low for top colleges, even for URMs. The other things might not be enough for them to overlook it. Congrats on getting into some safeties, and good luck.

i think you will get denied entrance to your top schools because your SAT is too low. Your ec’ are outstanding but your SAT at 1740 is too low
chance me

Forgot to add all 3 summers spent boarding at a private high school taking courses and participating in activites (Summer of 2011 and 2012: Nobles and Greenough, Summer of 2013: Phillips Academy)

Yeah I do agree that my SAT’s aren’t up to par with most candidates that apply to those schools and I hope that colleges balance it out. I am also a Quest Bridge finalist and I know a friend who currently attends Tufts and her score was 1700

Well honestly its very hard to overlook a low SAT score even with great ECs and programs. Dont get your hopes up :(

My thread (chance please): <a href=“Chances for Vanderbilt, UNC, NYU, UF, and Duke? - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke-p1.html

Are you taking your SATs again? If you can just get your Math up to at least a 600… its about 1 more question. Ivy’s don’t like to see 500s… and I think that bringing your math up would help immensely.

Chance back please!?
