I am currently a junior and I hope to be able to run xc and track in college. I am more looking into DIII schools because I don't think I am good enough for DI or DII. My times are: 5k (XC) is a little over 17:00, mile (track) is about 5:00. Considering that I hope to improve, at least slightly, in my remaining time at high school, am I good enough to run at a good DIII college?

I think you could find a place on a DIII team. Maybe not recruited, but I’m sure there are programs that would welcome someone with those times and a good work ethic.

Zeek I would definitely look at schools and current times of the runners on the team. Do not “pigeon hole” yourself to to just DIII schools. A school like Bryant University, which is a D1 School but has an unfunded XC and T&F team (but they do give tremendous merit aid) might be a great fit. Many of the kids there are under 5:00 for the mile but no-one approaching 4:20’s.

So pick and choose wisely,
