Hey guys! I am a junior this year and starting to plan a master list of what I should consider my reach, match and safety schools for when I apply next fall. I'm from California, by the way.

I recently fell in love with UNC Chapel Hill (my cousins go there) and know that it would most likely be very difficult for me to get in, being out of state with okay grades and okay pre-test scores, but I'm also thinking about what I'd need to get into Vanderbilt, Georgetown, U Iowa, UCSB, UCSC, Cal Poly, etc.

Here's some info about my past years in school:
9th grade GPA: 3.85
10th grade GPA: 3.57
11th grade GPA (as of first semester): 3.75
so weighted i'm at a 3.71
PSAT score (was really bad): 167
PLAN (pre act) score: 30
Junior year classes: AP Language and Composition, US History, Advanced Music Performance, Newspaper, PreCalc, Chemistry, Advanced Drama
Plan for senior year classes: AP Lit, AP Environmental Science, Econ/Government, Advanced Music Performance, Newspaper, Stat/AP Stat

** might it pose a problem that I took Spanish I in eighth grade, and II in freshman year, then dropped out because my school's spanish program didn't work out for me?

Extracurricular/School stuff:
• as i said, music at school (i sing)
•high school newspaper - lifestyles and review editor
•chamber choir with local symphony
• member of teen cabaret ensembl
•member of a national church leadership council
• backpack in colorado every summer

If you could help me figure out how to be realistic regarding my "dream" UNC or Vandy... and let me know what direction I should go in.
I want to be a journalism major, but my mom thinks I should stick with music, so do you think I'd have an easier time if I auditioned for the voice programs at some of the harder schools, just to have a better chance of getting in?

Thank you so much!
