I'm curious. Periodically, when skimming the posts since my last visit, I will spot new posts between old ones that I swear were not there before. Or, I will read a thread, and want to return at a later time, only to find that it disappeared. Okay, perhaps I just missed the ones I think are new. However, what happens to the posts that "disappear"? I realize some are removed by the moderators, due to content, or locked because they have outlived their intended purpose, but others are just no where to be found. The latest: Carolyn recently posted that her daughter was interested in applying to new stretch colleges not formerly on her list. I replied (with many others). I wanted to read any updates, and can no longer find the thread. I performed several searches by the author (Carolyn), and myself. Nothing! Was it removed?

It i nt r y s ib e hat ng r d s e r g !

say what????

Beats me. I know which thread you're talking about, and I can't find it either. Seemed pretty innocuous, so I have no idea why it's gone missing.

Cur- that is so funny. I was just about to type "Say what?" when I saw that you beat me to it. Must be a Texas thing.
Where IS that thread?

Well, all I remember about it was that carolyn was musing about her D trying a few reaches after being buoyed by a few acceptances. I remember I posted "why not"? And "go for it". I can't remember anything strange. Maybe I'll look some more.

I've seen threads disappear when the last poster posts something offensive and then the moderator zaps the whole thing.

Well, I'm new to CC and just finding my way around. But if you replied to Carolyn's thread, maybe it's "subscribed" under your account. So you could go to My Control Panel and see if a link is there under New Subscribed Threads. If it's not, you can look under Subscribed Threads and click on List Subscriptions. Or maybe you've done this already.

Macnyc,

Welcome. I've looked through the Subscribed threads, used the search feature and even gone back to look at all of my postings over the last month (and I'm sure I posted in that thread.) Nada. Zip. Zilch. This thread isn't pining for the fjords, it's gone.

I just copied the OP's question, pasted it into an email and sent it to the webmaster. Hopefully we should get a reply. It is strange that it disappeared.

Say What????? Some of my typed letters above mysteriously disappeared!! One of my inappropriate comments was surgically removed from another thread (moderator's prerogative ) but the thread remained.

The Ghost of CC???

Past, present or future?

NJres...aren't they, though!?

Bassdad-pining for the fjords? Now, there's a blast from the past, although in my house the phrase is rather commonplace. :)

Kjofkw Heck, the thread was deleted, at my request. Don't want to go into the details, but the quick update is D. talked with her GC and decided to add applications to two of the three reachier schools she was considering. The interesting part is, she decided to ask a different teacher to do the recommendations for those schools, and asked a teacher that she probably couldn't/wouldn't have asked earlier in the year to write them. She's also reworked part of her application to make it stronger, and has started working on the supplemental essays for the schools. So, we'll see how it goes. Thanks for asking!

Something is wrong with the search feature. Why has searching been disabled?

I noticed this too.

They do it now and again when volume gets heavy. Perhaps there is a lot of traffic involving EA/ED decisions these days. It should be back in a matter of hours or a couple of days at worst.

Searching consumes a lot of bandwidth, so during times of high traffic (like when the EA/ED decisions are coming out) it is disabled to keep the site running smoothly.

Moderators: Out of curiosity, are posts temporarily "off line" as writers edit, or add a reply? Sometimes it seems that new posts appear "down the line". I just assumed I missed them originally, but was curious if I could find an excuse ;-)
(Carolyn....Sorry!)
