JohnWilkins, you must amuse yourself greatly! None of the above has anything to do with the OP, or as you would put it, “the prompt.” Your post is too funny!

Most people’s insurance does NOT cover therapy for Autism, which is ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis). If you live in a state that mandates it, your are very lucky. However, most states do not mandate it and most insurance companies refuse to cover it due to the fact it is supposedly “experimental,” yet it has been a proven effective means of therapy for Autistic children since the 80s. On top of that, whatever we can have covered, our costs for insurance are going to DOUBLE for the next year, adding on to our expenses. Your nephew is very lucky to have insurance covering his therapy and I wish your family the best of luck.

With that said, I wish the OP best of luck in hunting for money. I know I am certainly attacking every scholarship head on. I know how stressful of a situation this can be. The best place to look for scholarships that I have found is [ScholarshipExperts.com: Scholarships, Scholarship, College Scholarships, Scholarship Search](http://www.scholarshipexperts.com). They gave me an extensive list of scholarships when I put in my information, and it is free.

Good luck and I’ll see you at UT in the fall!

Thanks for the explanation. I didn’t know that some states’ insurance don’t cover autism. Crazy!!!

BTW…

Where all will you be applying?

What are your reaches, matches, and financial safeties. I also know many schools that give good merit $$, so if you need more ideas… :)

Prayers and best wishes for you sis and your family.

^ As of right now, I am just applying to UT Austin and the University of Houston. I have to stay in state for cost reasons. I have been told that since my GPA is so high, I will have no problem being accepted in to either. Money is the only thing standing in my way. UHCL would be my financial safety (UHCL only accepts juniors and seniors and my current CC is the biggest feeder for the university). UH Downtown would be the next cheapest, though still expensive as I would probably have to live on campus anyways. Houston traffic is insane and it would cost me tons having to drive back in forth in gas and time.

I also would love to attend IU Bloomington (I’m originally from Indiana), but that would be incredibly expensive. If I could find enough money that would be my first and only choice.

What about Boston University? It appears they are actively trying to up their “diversity.” Although most of their money goes to low-income high-achieving students, you might be able to wean them into giving you a lot of money because you are Native American and, frankly, are in demand.

Are you already in college? If so, I know it’s harder to find $$ for transfer students. Or, are you in dual enrollment (in high school, but taking college credits at the same time)?

What is UHCL? Is that University of Houston?

What do you like about UI Bloomington (besides being in your native-born state)? Maybe there are other schools that have similar features.

Yes, I am already attending college at Galveston College. And I’ve been having trouble finding money for transfer students. It’s almost like being punished for trying to save money. UHCL is the University of Houston - Clear Lake. It’s a subset that is cheaper than UH Downtown and I would be able to live at home.

IU has a feel that I’ve always loved. I’ve always adored the big schools and IU has that great school pride and has tons of diversity of things to do. Plus, it’s just one of those schools that I’m just drawn to. I love everything about it. UT Austin is a good match and I really enjoyed my visit there in September. It gives off the same feel as IU, I just wish the feel was a little more historic (IU has great architecture). Plus, my cousins go to IU and they are like brothers to me, so that would be a bonus.

Don’t get me wrong, though, I am VERY excited to be a Longhorn!

Have you looked at Miss St? They have $$$ for CC transfers from OOS.
[Community College Transfer Scholarships - Scholarships || Office of Admissions and Scholarships || Mississippi State University](http://www.admissions.msstate.edu/scholarships/community/index.php)

Be sure to take special note of the one that covers OOS costs. Miss St. schollies often “stack,” so you might be able to snag more than one.

Miss St offers schollies kind of on a first-come, first serve basis…so, the earlier you apply the better.

The campus is lovely, architecture very, very nice. Dorms are nice, too. :)

I’ll PM this to you, too.
