Well, let me give you my life story. I attend Arizona State University, here on a National Merit Scholarship, and am currently a sophomore Classics major with over 100 credits. The dilemma is that I haven't the slightest idea what I want to do after undergrad or in terms of a career. I've taken chem classes, latin classes, english classes, polisci classes....basically I've run the table. But I haven't really found a passion for any of it. I have always shied away from business classes, the thought of them just seems to dry for me....maybe I'm missing out on something there. But for a long time I thought my end goal was to run a private boarding high school, but I don't think a career in academia is necessarily right for me. I want a fast-paced lifestyle forces me to travel and move at a moment's notice. I have no desire right now to settle down and be comfortable. I have always enjoyed the nontraditional life, ie I don't own a cell phone or comp (this is my friends), I've never been a grade monger, but I don't feel like its bragging to say that most classes come rather easily to me. I have this obsession with sports, I kinda feel like its silly and I couldn't have a career in sports, but I love pro sports and know just about everything there is to know about the nfl and most european soccer leagues. So I have once or twice thought about sports journalism or becoming a sports agent. I guess my dream job, if I could do anything, would to become a GM of a pro sports team, but it seems to me to be impossible since I won't be playing college sports. I was recruited at Indiana and UMD (my home state) to play soccer, but I broke my leg and they rescinded their scholarship offers (bastards). Anyway, the point is that I am clueless as to what I want to do. I feel that when I find my niche, I will thrive; its just a matter of getting my foot in the door of something I enjoy. Not positive anyone can help me with this - most people say consulting or Ibanking, but I've never even taken an Econ class, plus I'm not going to an elite school etc etc. If anyone has ANY suggestions about career choices, or even classes/majors I might be interested in, please list em, I've got 4 scholarship semesters left and only 20 credits more for graduation. I will listen to anything. Also, if you have any info about how to get involved in any particular field, please, let me know. Thanks so much. I know this is absurdly long, if you have any other questions about me please feel free to ask....

Check into sports management if you really like sports. It will involve some law and possibly some business classes. Both of which you should take first to see if you like them.

Try out a business class and see how you like it. if you hate it, consulting and ibanking certainly won't be for you.

Other than that, you really just have to do some soul searching and see what interests you. If sports is your only interest than look into careers like being an agent, sports equipment companies (i.e. Nike) or even coaching. Go to a career fair or two and see if any companies interest you. Be proactive.

How about a career in foreign services working for the state department? How are your foreign language skills?

How about interning with one of the Phoenix sports teams?

Because school comes very easily to you, you should consider law school. Having a law degree will help if you want to become an agent or a GM.

You should take an econ class.

What level of soccer did you play at before you were injured? Those two schools are great soccer schools. How did they see you?
When they rescinded their offers, how did they do this? Did they just ignore you?

Hey, thanks for the replies....to give the answers about soccer first: I was in high school at the time...I went to boarding school, so no club soccer during the academic year, making it way harder to get seen. Basically went to camps whenever I could yada yada yada. I had a lot of connections at UMD, and they sent a few scouts a couple time to check me out, and after a few interviews voila....As for Indiana, a scout was actually at a game of mine watching a player from the other team, and I had one of my best games, so we got to talking, and again, voila. However, I wasn't sure I wanted to go to one of them (I got into Cornell, Dartmouth, and Williams) cuz I thought it may be a poor choice to choose soccer over academics. Since I didn't commit, they have the chocie to rescind their offer. I am 99% sure there are safeguards placed on this sort of thing if the player has committed....but I did not. So yea, I broke my tibia in 2 places and my fibula, so they backed out, and for some unknown reason I decided to take the academic scholarship to ASU....I kick myself for it....I still think about transferring to an LAC for academics and allow me to play soccer (oh, by the way, ASU has no varsity soccer program), but its my 2nd year, sometimes I think I should just tough it out even though I'm not crazy about it.

Anyway, the foreign service has always intrigued me....I don't have any modern language ability, but as everyone says, Greek and Latin would help a great deal picking up some new languages. Anyway, keep the suggestions coming hah..

HowardRoark, that's a great soccer story (until the injury).

You have a lot on the ball. If you can't figure it out, take a year off and travel. Maybe work for an organization like Habitat For Humaities, The Peace Corp, there are tons of organizations.

ASU should help you. Check out the career center. They probably have an internship center. Are you in the honors college? They should also help.

Good luck.

HowardRoark, because you don't have your own computer, you may never see this, but just in case, how do you like Phoenix and ASU?
