Big concern is that I chose not to take AP World Lit this year. Just took the regular World Lit. My counselor said he had to fill in that I did not take the MOST rigorous schedule because of this. Does this defer me?

It doesn't help but I don't think that that one bubble is going to greatly change things, honestly. I still think you have a good shot at getting in EA, but even if you are deferred it really isn't the end of the world. I don't see you getting rejected EA, that is the main thing, but I think you have a good shot. Good luck!

I think its pretty crappy that your counselor would do that. I would call up an ND rep and to talk to them about it specifically. A single class should not define your entire high school career. I can say from experience that all calls made to the reps are put on record and that your concern about the issue may help your chances.

(Reply to ghippleh) Actually, what the counselor did was entirely appropriate. The poster's opting for a less intensive class does indeed indicate that he is not taking the most rigorous schedule.

(Reply to irishmn) Nonetheless, I wouldn't worry about it. The fact that you decided to take one slightly easier class shouldn't affect the admission's decision too much, if at all. And anyway, with a solid GPA and a near perfect ACT, I don't think you should have too much of a problem, judging from past students I know who have been accepted into ND.

I hope to see you there next year, assuming we both get in!

The reason for not taking the AP class was exactly that. Being a drum major and on CC along with 4 AP classes left me with little or no time for anything else. I scored a 5 on the AP english test and figured that might override the fact that I did not take AP World Lit. The counselor did what he had to do. I am not mad at him. I know he wrote a strong recommendation on my behalf.

I don't think what your counselor did is that big of a deal, seeing that you have good GPA and rank. I was a section leader in marching band and a varsity xc runner my sophomore year, and it was very challenging. All the practices, meets, and shows overlapped, and it wasn't fun at all.
