Okay so my first question is do you think I will get in or not? I go a well-respected private school in Massachusetts, I have a 3.6 gpa (on a 4.0 scale), 1710 on my SATS (620 on math and 600 on reading), good community service and good extracurriculars.

My next question is do you think I have an increased chance of getting in if I apply as undeclared, or applying with a major. I plan on majoring in biochemistry/chemical engineering, and I was wondering if it would help if during my senior year I took some electives that supported that major?

I think you will get in. Saying you major should not matter.

You’ll be fine. Everyone who enters CofC is an undeclared major anyways. There is no benefit to naming a major.

I don’t believe that CofC has an engineering school. (Great school, though.)

They do have a Biochemistry major however! And a minor in Chemistry.

The thing that I think you have going for you is being from the North, because College of Charleston is currently categorized as a “regional” school. Your SAT is slightly above the average expected of OOS students (1140-1280 for reading and math). Luckily for you, they don’t seem to consider SAT Writing.

Rather than taking an engineering course, make sure that you have taken a FINE ARTS COURSE (that is, “Appreciation of, History of, or Performance in one of the fine arts”). This is a curriculum requirement fairly unique to Charleston, and I feel that many engineering/chemistry majors may neglect arts studies in high school.

Declare your major for sure … it makes it seem like your not just wandering around not knowing what you want to do. More (adult) applicant if you will haha.
