I’m an ORM who goes to an ultra-competitive STEM school (which makes me a complete misfit lol) in MA

I already got into the University of Pittsburgh; I’m planning on applying to a solid number of safeties, but the rest of my schools are reaches. In particular, I’m thinking about applying to Princeton SCEA. Do I have an okay chance, or should I apply ED to a slightly less selective school?

The Ivies are a reach for most everyone but you are in the range.

The latin will definitely separate you from the rest of the STEM majors. Your stats are also quite good.
I think you have a decent shot at Princeton.

Just out of curiosity though, how were you able to get into Pitt already?

@sgopal2 Pitt is a rolling admission school, so I submitted my application at the end of August and received my decision one week ago.

If you’re not a solid candidate, I don’t know who would be. Grades and test scores are near perfect, EC look pretty good.

Do you have a dream school for your ED?

@arc918 I was debating between Princeton SCEA and UPenn ED. My parents want me to apply to the latter. I’ve been considering it, but Princeton is my dream school by far, and it’s still extremely possible that I could be deferred by Penn should I apply ED—which would prolly be more devastating than being deferred/rejected by Princeton.

If Princeton is the dream school, then perhaps SCEA there and apply to Penn RD.

Good luck either way!

All of the top schools are reaches for everyone, but assuming you’re going into English or some sort of field related to writing, you have a pretty solid chance due to your unique and tailored ECs. Make sure to convey your passions for literacy in your essay without exaggerating too much. Best of luck!

You’re a solid candidate for both Princeton and UPenn. Obviously, it’s a crapshoot, but you’re as good as any.

You will probably get into the ivy league. Even if you don’t go to an ivy, you’ve clearly worked very hard and will do well in life. Relax! Enjoy your senior year, you’ve got this.

@ImAwfulWithNames @holycannoli thanks guys!

I say go with Princeton SCEA. You’ve got an excellent chance. Applying to a less selective Ivy won’t necessarily increase your chances more. Your profile is quite balanced, and interesting. You will definitely stand out amongst the sea of applicants, ORM and others. Best of luck.

@sgopal2 thanks!

@supercilious if you’re not IVY material, no one is. Have you considered applying to private schools that offer merit aid, like Emory, CMU, Northeastern, as safeties? It seems like you could get great offers. However, I agree that you have as good a chance as anyone to get into Princeton SCEA.

@SeinfeldFan1 I’m applying to the Emory Scholars Program (RD but Nov. 15 deadline). Will also probably apply to BU’s Honors College/Trustee Scholarship, but not Northeastern b/c they waitlist a lot of students from my school.

@supercilious BU is an equally great school! Good luck! I think you’ll have more acceptances than you can count!!! :smiley:

Looking at the title, and if you have to ask, I would have said “no”…until I read your stats. You seem very prepared and distinguished – best of luck.

Contact Kelly Writers House at Penn and send them some of your writing samples, as they recruit great writers… That will help your app at Penn! Good Luck!
